After checking-in we went to our room and when we opened the door, it was already occupied and full of rubbish. We informed the reception and they changed our room to one that was clean and empty. The room was okay but there were some issues. The shower head wasn’t screwed in properly so you had to hold the shower head to shower. The wall above the bed was covered in handprints. The aircon had an issue and was incredibly loud so we had to use the fan which was hanging from exposed wires. A very disappointing stay.

Didn’t like that we put the do not disturb sign up and when we came back in the room there was evidence that people had been in there (extra clean towns in the bathroom) when the dirty ones were not removed and husbands fault for leaving his packets of smokes on the table so two packets went missing. But other than that the place is fantastic and in a great location

Got there after driving to Cairns to find out my room had a broken bed! No other rooms available. Things happen but a phone call would have been nice. Lady at the counter couldn’t apologise enough.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hides, I could walk to everything within 5-10 mins, including the bus station, wharf, esplanade and night markets. The rooms are very spacious, bed was comfortable, and Woolworths is across the road! My room's big window was frosted, so couldn't see out. Only one small part of the window could be opened, so if this is a problem for you, ask first. Also the lovely pool was "broken" as the staff put it, they need to fix it ASAP. There were a few tiny ants in the bathroom, but all in all, it is fantastic value for money in a very convenient location.

We only stayed 1 night, value for money was great & it was close to lots of places to eat & Woolworths was across the road - little bit old / tired but for a short stay would definately recommend, they also did breakfast on the balcony for $10 which was great

Plz read whole review. This good aspects. On arrival at 4.50pm shocked no staff at reception esp with about 25 people noisily, but happily milling around. (On booking I hadn't realised hotel also had backpackers section. this could haattract or appeal to or not to some) but did know they would actually take out $100 deposit. Lift to room was small & shabby...and often crowded ( beyond limit?) My room was small but otherwise inside looked pleasant just like photo. It was very clean n contained all things expected, mostly in new/ newish condition . Bathroom was clean + okay, but unfortunately couldn't fit kettle under the tap to fill it directly. Plumbing was very loud & ongoing noise for hrs. King bed, TV, air con & fans were v good. Fridge was ok, but small freezer was disappointing. Safety DEP box? The room was accessed by a real key - perhaps an inside latch/ lock would give some people the extra ' impression' of security esp when people came past often speaking/ walking loudly along the very long narrow hallway. While the room looked fine, the large window had no view...at all...covered in heavy frosted glass.While it couldn't be opened it did feel like being locked in (with nice big curtains. The lack oThis should be mentioned in listing & hotel website- especially if only some or all rooms were same. This would be the most disgustingingly dirty place we have ever stayed in. The positives; Housekeeping had done the best with what they were given. The shower had excellent pressure. The negatives; Curtains were stained and smelled putrid. windows were absolutely filthy with 2 bird poo covered air-conditioning units at the open window and drug paraphernalia and pooh on the ledge beneath the window made a dreadful smell. The pidgeons were perched there. The blanket supplied was disgusting, it was so old and stained. No exhaust for shower steam. Only one mug and one tiny cup. pillows were so flat and old, had to ask for extra. No sink plug ( why do places not supply them ?) We will NEVER stay here again and strongly recommend fellow travelers look elsewhere until the owner cleans the place up.

This was a budget property and I think basically it was as expected for the price point. I really didn't like the lack of ventilation, but could live with it. The bed was a bit hard and pillows were really cheap and terrible. But on the good its a budget stay, the room was big and it was very clean, good size fridge and the aircon worked
