There are two dining tables, one inside and another on the screened in porch, so you can enjoy your BBQ on the screened porch. We also offer a 2-car carport, as Texas panhandle weather can be unpredictable with hail storms in the summer and ice storms in the winter!

You will love watching birds and local wildlife here at the Hideout. You may see songbirds, hawks, great horned owls, road runners, quail, deer, aoudads, feral hogs, bobcats, fox, and be serenaded by coyotes. Stunning sunrises and sunsets are included!
If you're in the mood to explore, Palo Duro Canyon State Park is right there, and the entrance to this “Grand Canyon of Texas" is just a mile further up the road. Visitors explore by car, hiking, horseback, and bike (best mountain biking around). Right by the Park are Palo Duro Zip Line Adventures, Palo Duro Creek Ranch Jeeping tours, and Palo Duro Riding Stables. The musical drama TEXAS shows in the park’s outdoor amphitheater June through mid-August and is a must see! Let us know if we can assist you with planning any of these activities. We’re here to help and want your stay to be enjoyable and memorable.
It’s about a fifteen minute jaunt to the city of Canyon where you’ll find the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum (the largest historical museum in the state of Texas). Andrea is super nice and you can tell she's gone to a lot of trouble to have a lot of little extras. Place is really clean. Place is very close to park entrance and very close to a place to eat/buy supplies, you couldn't find a better location in terms of access to park and nearby attractions. The only issue we have is that the owners/hosts were there a lot, like most of the day for most of our stay. We certainly didn't have an issue with them being on their own property, but it's the fact that our only bathroom was in an area that was sort of communal with the barn. And since it's the only bathroom they can access (the one in the other cabin is within their locked doors, so they couldn't use that one), we thought they might need access to our bathroom and we didn't shower, etc. The bathroom also had the window cracked open when we arrived, so anyone near that window can hear whatever is going on in that bathroom. We thought we were going to have our own private bathroom and not one in a open area, that wasn't clear to us in the pics.

A beautiful sojourn
Our trip to palo duro canyon state park was enhanced manifold by our stay on this beautiful location. A mere 5 mins ride from the park, this place was an experience in itself. We decided to stay in the riders roost, which is a well stocked cozy space with bedroom upstairs and kitchen below. The horses and few other animals stay right next to the kitchen separated by a wall! The owner was super nice and friendly. Our daughter got to experience riding on a horse thanks to Andrea who also got us farm fresh eggs from the chicken coop next door. Overall, we had an amazing time visiting this place and highly recommend.

This place was the cleanest place we have stayed! Immaculate! Charming small quarters well decorated and comfortable. The animals were a plus. The grounds were so nice with an inviting look. You do share this property with the stable so there is a haylike smell. The hist was very gracious and kind.

Deep in the Heart of Texas
Absolutely stunning!
This property is a true gem near Palo Duro State Park. Our stay was nothing short of magical, offering a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and culture.
The property's three horses and two goats added a charming, rustic touch to our experience. It was a delight to see them daily, making us feel truly connected to nature. The stocked pond was a highlight, providing convenient access to many hours of fishing in the serene surroundings.
The location couldn't have been better. Being so close to Palo Duro State Park allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty and activities the area has to offer.
The off-road jeep adventure was exhilarating, giving us an adrenaline rush as we explored the rugged terrain. Horseback riding through the scenic trails was equally delightful, offering breathtaking views and a peaceful escape.
One of the most memorable experiences was attending a performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in the park's outdoor amphitheater. The natural backdrop of the canyon under the starlit sky made the performance truly enchanting.
Overall, this property exceeded our expectations in every way. The combination of excellent amenities, beautiful surroundings, and prime location near Palo Duro State Park made for an unforgettable vacation.
We can't wait to return!

Palo Duro Trip
We were lucky to stay at the Rider's Roost. We had our two grandsons (8 & 11). Location was very close to Palo Duro Canyon, the scenic TX highway 207.
We also went to Caprock Canyons and saw the Bison, a Roadrunner, and a Coyote.
The Rider's Roost has sleeping quarters upstairs, kitchenette, nice shower/ toilet
and a screened porch. We took our meals to the porch because it was cool and comfortable. There was plenty of room for the 4 of us. It is a very charming place, the boys helped feed the chickens and the catfish in the pond. We also got to eat fresh eggs from the chickens. It was everything I wished it to be.
The only drawback was the moth ball's pungent smell. But they are necessary to ward off moths. After a while your nose acclimates to the smell.
Andrea is a very kind and friendly host.

Spring Break!
Rider's Roost was a delightful place. The cabin was clean and cozy, just as described. We enjoyed being next to the barn and meeting the horses and the new goats, Pearl and Danny-boy. They were often under the carport greeting us when we returned from our excursions. The screened-in porch was perfect for an early morning coffee or a game of cards in the evening.
Andrea included fresh chicken eggs and cream for our coffee. Her book collection on the area was so interesting. The guides and flyers were very helpful. The natural beauty of Palo Duro was majestic and it was wonderful being so close to the canyon.
I would highly recommend Rider's Roost if you like animals, nature and a very quiet place to stay. Andrea is also a fabulous photographer and had some lovely cards for sale. An added bonus.
Hope to return again! Thank you, Andrea.

Rustic Luxury
For a visit to the Palo Duro State Park, I don't think you can find a more convenient location except maybe in the park. Considering the Roost is part of a horse stable, it is very clean and comfortable! The downstairs has very limited seating in a smallish kitchen but makes up for it with a very nice screened in patio for relaxing. Where you can listen to the cackle of the chickens and the nickers of the horses The bedroom is upstairs with a nice sitting area for reading, writing or watching TV. But the bathroom is downstairs which provided a bit of a challenge at night. Also, when I say rustic, there are pelts of various creatures on the handrails which my wife found a little off putting when having to go downstairs to go to the bathroom. Didn't bother me but if you don't like stuffed animals in your living quarters, I suggest you find something else.

Beautiful Getaway!
This is the perfect retreat! So comfortable and roomy, with all the comforts of home. We took our daughter to Palo Duro Canyon for her birthday trip, but this cabin and the surrounding nature turned out to be the highlight of our trip! We absolutely loved the old west décor with all the modern accommodations, definitely a one of a kind experience! Our hostess was so kind, and went the extra mile to make our stay a happy family memory.

Rustic Getaway for Animal Lovers
Needed a cabin for a short notice trip to Palo Duro. This is a small country cabin on a working horse ranch, so naturally there are a few guidelines to follow and keep in mind throughout your stay. The cabin is well kept and perfectly appointed with just the right amount of amenities to make you feel at home and welcome.

Horsey heaven
Andrea and John are fantastic hosts! They are friendly and helpful. We were a tiny bit surprised when we first arrived as the roost really is above the barn/stable. The tack room is the back door and the stalls are right there in the stable with us. It smelled of alfalfa and horses. Anyone not familiar with this smell may think it’s bad, but I promise it is very pleasant. They should sell candles with that scent. The horses wander about and even come to visit. The giant turkey is Woodrow, and he’s the biggest turkey I’ve ever laid eyes on. Love the place and our hosts. Hope we can come back one day! The AC works really well, thank goodness, as it topped 100. The screened patio is perfect for enjoying the evening breeze.
