Set in the foothills of Chianti, this delightful villa for two people has near-360° views of undulating Tuscan countryside. Ginestra is wonderfully positioned for visits in every direction – arrayed to the east are the wine-growing region’s lovely historic towns of Castellina, Radda and Gaiole; to the north, there’s Panzano, Greve and Florence; to the south, Siena; to the west, Poggibonsi and San Gimignano. Castellina, the closest of these, is just 10 minutes away; Florence takes about an hour by car.
But these are far from Ginestra’s only indulgences. Step inside and you’ll encounter a loved home, with carefully chosen prints and paintings, ceramics and rugs. Outside, deck chairs are just where you’d want them, on a small viewing platform overlooking the neighbouring vineyard. Behind, closer to the private pool and under the shade of a tree, are a table and chairs – just the spot for a cooling afternoon drink. If it’s warm, choose between two outdoor dining tables for al-fresco meals, one on the terrace next to the kitchen, the other outside the lounge. In colder weather, eat inside and snuggle up by the fireplace.
When it comes to relaxing, you are spoilt for choice here: with two charming lounges, one inside and another outside (the main terrace by the house has an outdoor sofa and two armchairs); plus two al-fresco dining spaces, a generous pool and furnished poolside. Ginestra is situated 511 metres above sea level. This means that there is plenty of wind and fresh air, eliminating the need for air conditioning. And that’s before you’ve left the villa. Ginestra has so much to offer, you’ll probably want to visit several times. If you do, or you already know others locally, it’s a great place to invite friends back to for lunch or dinner.
