Blissful stay
This Gite is absolutely stunning. Five stars are not enough! The hosts Michele and Steve are lovely and have created a little bit of paradise in the French countryside. The beautiful old stone barn has been renovated to such a high standard by Steve and tastefully and beautifully furnished by Michele. Very large and comfortable bed. The views are wonderful and the gardens, a result of Michele's creativity and hard work are simply beautiful. We enjoyed looking at all the beautiful plants and arrangements. The olive trees were stand out gorgeous! The swimming pool has beautiful views and is kept warm by the cover which means even though we visited in May the water was warm enough to swim. The private area is large with really good quality outside furniture for relaxing and eating and a good parasol. We enjoyed trips out to local towns and particularly enjoyed a trip to the Sunday Morning market followed by lunch at Montcuq. There is information in the gite about where to visit. We spent the previous week in the Dordogne but preferred this area as it was less touristy. Only regret is that we didn't manage to fit a massage in with Michele. Next time!

We've been back for a week and have been trying to think of something 'clever' that will sum up our stay with Steve and Michele. We've decided to keep it simple and to just say "perfection"! Wonderful location, fantastic accomodation/pool, sublime views and exceptional hospitality. Everything is perfectly maintained, inside and out. Look no further - this is it!

Not enough stars in the universe!
I find myself in something of a dilemma in writing this review: I want to say how extraordinary the place and the hosts are, but I don't want anyone else to go there when we want next to go. Also, why are there only five stars available? This demands 20 or even 30. The property itself outdoes the photos on the site - it's altogether roomier and lighter than is shown. We were two, for which the space is ideal - huge bedroom and spacious kitchen/ living room with a lovely private terrace outside. Steve, one half of the couple, has restored what was once a wreck into a building sympathetic to the original and its surrounds - the warm local stone feels as though it is organically connected to the land, which is itself glorious: Undulating fields behind the house, a feeling of a place at peace with itself and the outlook and hospitality from Michèle and Steve that was superlative. They are endlessly kind and warm and made an already delicious stay into something really special. The kitchen is perfectly kitted out, the bathroom ditto and everything worked! I suppose (hear the reluctance in my voice) I have to say you MUST go there, but please avoid the next time we go...

A brilliant stay - beautiful property
We stayed for a week and enjoyed every minute. The location is wonderful - great views from the garden and a beautiful drive to adjoining villages. The property is gorgeous, spacious yet cosy, with all the amenities you might need. We couldn’t use the swimming pool because it rained a lot during our stay but it looked fabulous! Steve and Michele were lovely hosts.

Wonderful stay
My wife and I stayed in Michele and Steve's excellent gite for 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute of it. It's very clean and cozy with lots of light, a very comfortable bed and a good sized bathroom, including a nice, deep bathtub. While no views are to be had in the gite itself there is a pleasant gravel terrace with a table setup for one to have meals out while admiring the fantastic views over the country side. Castlenau-Montratier is in an excellent location for exploring the heart of Query Blanc with Lauzerte and Montcuq nearby and Cahors, Moissac and Montauban in a half-hours drive. The market in Cahors is a definite must visit. We enjoyed many good walks on the GR 65, which runs through the region, and various petite randonées around the villages and relaxed by or in the pool in the afternoons. Michele and Steve and wonderful and friendly hosts who leave you to get on with your holiday but are always available when you have any questions or to just chat. And if you want a massage to help relax you even further then Michele is the one to see. Like us you may not want to leave.

A little piece of heaven
This is a lovely gite in a wonderfully tranquil location. The gite has been lovingly created by the owners own hard work. It is spacious, cool and well equipped with living space, bedroom and bathroom all being of superior size and built with beams and local stone. The view from the patio area over the surrounding countryside is breathtaking and with a good book, a bottle of wine and a dip in the salt-water pool a very productive day could be spent. This area of France is beguiling with bastides, countryside, chateaux, abbeys, churches and markets to be explored every day and in every direction. The owners are down to earth, kind, thoughtful and welcoming people. We spent 9 days here and they ended all too quickly.
