A Natural Paradise
Set in a lovely flowery garden and surrounded by country lanes lined with wildflowers, this peaceful place suited us down to the ground. If you enjoy peace and the natural world this is perfect. Its proximity to some of the regions lovely towns and villages means that there is plenty of sightseeing and shopping - there are great markets at weekends.

Outstanding Holiday
Michel and Steve went out of their way to make our week’s vacation a memorable one, in their lovely gite. Wonderful that it had been designed and built by them in traditional style. There are great views across the valley below the swimming pool. A very comforable and beautifully equiped property. Outstanding! Thank you.

Blissful stay
This Gite is absolutely stunning. Five stars are not enough! The hosts Michele and Steve are lovely and have created a little bit of paradise in the French countryside. The beautiful old stone barn has been renovated to such a high standard by Steve and tastefully and beautifully furnished by Michele. Very large and comfortable bed.
The views are wonderful and the gardens, a result of Michele's creativity and hard work are simply beautiful. We enjoyed looking at all the beautiful plants and arrangements. The olive trees were stand out gorgeous!
The swimming pool has beautiful views and is kept warm by the cover which means even though we visited in May the water was warm enough to swim.
The private area is large with really good quality outside furniture for relaxing and eating and a good parasol.
We enjoyed trips out to local towns and particularly enjoyed a trip to the Sunday Morning market followed by lunch at Montcuq. There is information in the gite about where to visit.
We spent the previous week in the Dordogne but preferred this area as it was less touristy.
Only regret is that we didn't manage to fit a massage in with Michele. Next time!

We've been back for a week and have been trying to think of something 'clever' that will sum up our stay with Steve and Michele. We've decided to keep it simple and to just say "perfection"! Wonderful location, fantastic accomodation/pool, sublime views and exceptional hospitality.
Everything is perfectly maintained, inside and out. Look no further - this is it!

Not enough stars in the universe!
I find myself in something of a dilemma in writing this review: I want to say how extraordinary the place and the hosts are, but I don't want anyone else to go there when we want next to go. Also, why are there only five stars available? This demands 20 or even 30. The property itself outdoes the photos on the site - it's altogether roomier and lighter than is shown. We were two, for which the space is ideal - huge bedroom and spacious kitchen/ living room with a lovely private terrace outside. Steve, one half of the couple, has restored what was once a wreck into a building sympathetic to the original and its surrounds - the warm local stone feels as though it is organically connected to the land, which is itself glorious: Undulating fields behind the house, a feeling of a place at peace with itself and the outlook and hospitality from Michèle and Steve that was superlative. They are endlessly kind and warm and made an already delicious stay into something really special. The kitchen is perfectly kitted out, the bathroom ditto and everything worked! I suppose (hear the reluctance in my voice) I have to say you MUST go there, but please avoid the next time we go...

A brilliant stay - beautiful property
We stayed for a week and enjoyed every minute. The location is wonderful - great views from the garden and a beautiful drive to adjoining villages. The property is gorgeous, spacious yet cosy, with all the amenities you might need. We couldn’t use the swimming pool because it rained a lot during our stay but it looked fabulous! Steve and Michele were lovely hosts.

Wonderful stay
My wife and I stayed in Michele and Steve's excellent gite for 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute of it.
It's very clean and cozy with lots of light, a very comfortable bed and a good sized bathroom, including a nice, deep bathtub.
While no views are to be had in the gite itself there is a pleasant gravel terrace with a table setup for one to have meals out while admiring the fantastic views over the country side.
Castlenau-Montratier is in an excellent location for exploring the heart of Query Blanc with Lauzerte and Montcuq nearby and Cahors, Moissac and Montauban in a half-hours drive. The market in Cahors is a definite must visit.
We enjoyed many good walks on the GR 65, which runs through the region, and various petite randonées around the villages and relaxed by or in the pool in the afternoons.
Michele and Steve and wonderful and friendly hosts who leave you to get on with your holiday but are always available when you have any questions or to just chat.
And if you want a massage to help relax you even further then Michele is the one to see.
Like us you may not want to leave.

A little piece of heaven
This is a lovely gite in a wonderfully tranquil location. The gite has been lovingly created by the owners own hard work. It is spacious, cool and well equipped with living space, bedroom and bathroom all being of superior size and built with beams and local stone. The view from the patio area over the surrounding countryside is breathtaking and with a good book, a bottle of wine and a dip in the salt-water pool a very productive day could be spent.
This area of France is beguiling with bastides, countryside, chateaux, abbeys, churches and markets to be explored every day and in every direction.
The owners are down to earth, kind, thoughtful and welcoming people. We spent 9 days here and they ended all too quickly.

Best stay in France
We've been coming to France for a good number of years and can honestly say this was the best stay of them all. The gite is located conveniently for many well known towns, yet is a wonderfully peaceful retreat ideal for relaxing. Michèle's garden and borders are beautiful and Steve's work on the whole property is absolutely top quality. The pool is in a wonderful position with views for miles across the wide valley in the direction of the Aveyron. We were able to sit outside and eat often looking across the pool and view as there was a heatwave at the time. Despite this, the gite remained cool thanks to the thick walls and one of the most comfy beds we have ever slept in. Availing yourself of one of Michèle's massages in the purpose built studio is highly recommended. Michèle, Steve and Zoé are warm and friendly hosts who respect your privacy, but are always on hand if you have a query or just a chat. We would love to visit again.

Everything we were looking for and more!
Although the website photos were very good, this 'peaceful retreat, salt pool and stunning views' was even better than the images. Michèle, Steve & their daughter, Zoé, were very welcoming with refreshments after a long drive. Michèle has created a stunning garden surrounding the property and Steve's creatively resurrected a ruin into a fabulous place in which stay; their combined skills have resulted in a very special hideaway. Lovely peaceful surroundings in an area full of places to explore. Although we've not rented many properties, this place was better than we'd expected and, should we ever wish to visit the area again, we'd be keeping our fingers crossed that we could book again. A really special home away from home.

Beautiful and peaceful.
We had the pleasure of staying in this beautifully converted building for about ten days at the end of September. It’s rare to find accommodation for two people, at this price, that is as spacious, well appointed and pleasing to the eye. The view from the outside terrace is delightful and the swimming pool is a joy. I’ve never slept better on holiday — the only thing you can hear at night are the owls.
The nearby village of Montpezat is charming, but the location overall is terrific, within easy reach of the Lot, the Aveyron and the Dordogne.
The hosts are kind, discreet and a pleasure to talk to. Wonderful!

Perfect!!
We wanted a quiet holiday in the Cahors area to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery and sample the local food and wine. Here we hit the jackpot. The Gite is well appointed with one of the comfiest beds you could hope to sleep in. The pool is warm and clean, the view is stunning, the gardens beautifully kept and outdoor areas nice and private. The owners Michelle and Steve are extremely friendly and ensure you have a fantastic time. Highly recommended.

A lovely gîte in a beautiful area
We've just returned from a wonderful 2 weeks in a beautifully restored, well equipped and spotlessly presented gîte, which far exceeded our expectations. The outside area was very versatile, and the pool an absolute godsend, especially during the 1st week, when we experienced daily temperatures of 35 degrees. Michèle and Steve were always ready to answer questions or just chat, when we saw them, and they couldn't have been friendlier. Do, if at all possible, book a massage with Michele. It was absolute bliss, and definitely the best one I've ever had. The local village was so pretty and the staff in the bars and restaurants were really welcoming and friendly. A great holiday in every respect.

Ruby wedding anniversary
A terrific holiday, we wanted to have somewhere to 'chill' and this gite met the brief.
We were lucky with the weather being hot and sunny and the pool proved to be refreshing and much needed.
The view from garden and pool area is magnificent, a panoramic scene of the Lot area.
The gite is beautifully presented, clean, cool and comfortable.
Steve and Michele were the perfect hosts, they made sure that all of our needs were met, including where to buy the local wines. We took Michele's advice regarding a meal for our anniversary day and we enjoyed a fabulous meal on a terrace in an historical market town.
We wouldn't hesitate to return again.
Thanks for a lovely holiday Lynda and Ian

Exceptional property and exceptional hosts
We had an excellent 10 days holiday at the house and the owners Steve and Michele were so friendly and helpful that leaving at the end of the stay was sad.
The property is really well decorated and comfortably furnished throughout and the views are something special. Catelnau Montratier is a short drive away and is a beautiful small town with all the amenities required for a stay. The surrounding countryside is exceptional with many small villages and places to visit.
We have no problem recommending this house to anyone and we are sure we will be returning for another stay in the future.

Beautifully appointed gite. Very comfortable, quiet and unique.
Michèle and Steve were the perfect hosts. Very friendly, accommodating and considerate. As the weather was cool the wood fire was very cosy and warm. The welcome bottle of wine was equally appreciated. Steve has clearly spent a great deal of his artisan efforts getting the gite to the gorgeous state of accomodation it is now. Michèle was very eager to help with the many questions we had regarding local interests. Highly recommend this lovely secluded piece of paradise.

Beautifully restored barn with stunning views across the valley.
A very well equipped and roomy gite - a perfect retreat, and the pool was a welcome relief from the heat! Michele and Steve were great hosts, very helpful but never intrusive. There are a number of pretty hill-top villages in the area and Castelnau Montratier has two local markets and a friendly restaurant on the square.
