Boho Village Chateau in medieval bastide
This village chateau is hidden inside a Walled Garden, in the medieval village of Chalabre, in an area of fascinating history and oustanding natural beauty. The village has a lively art and music scene during the summer. The accommodation in this house is vast, all rooms are individually styled. A former yoga retreat centre, this house has a very special athmosphere and is well appointed.
Conde Nast Traveller described the house: ..." The House keeps itself hidden behind tall solid walls. ... It is both majestic and louche, part grand house, part boho shack, accessorised via Marrakech, Ethiopia and Liberty of London."
Taschen's Great Escapes Yoga included the house as the only French retreat in their round up of the world's best retreats in 2020.
The house is ideal for a group of up to 10 people with a great kitchen to prepare and share meals, and yet enough space to retreat and relax.
Marcel Proust is said to have visited many times, Goustav Eiffel designed a staircase by the orangery (which was sold off unfortunately in the 80s). The garden has hammocks and lounge chairs and a few shy, older house cats.
It is a perfect base from which to explore this rich and fanstastic region, one of France's best kept secrets.
