Charming Two Bedroom Cottage in Chipping Norton

Tucked away within the charming Chapel House Grounds, we welcome you to stay in our characterful cottage, one of the converted stables of Chapel House - one of the great Georgian coaching inns on the historic London-to-Birmingham road, just outside Chipping Norton.

Our home offers a warm and inviting stay, full of original features, from exposed wooden beams to rustic brickwork, creating a cosy yet spacious retreat that blends traditional charm with modern comfort!

The cottage comfortably sleeps up to six guests, with a welcoming double bedroom and a twin room upstairs along with a family bathroom, while downstairs the bright and airy sunroom, just off the living area, provides additional flexibility with a comfortable sofa bed that can easily serve as a third bedroom or a peaceful spot to relax.

The living spaces are designed for comfort and ease, with a homely feel that makes it easy to unwind after a day exploring the surrounding countryside.

Outside, a private walled courtyard offers a secure and tranquil space to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening drink.

Parking is convenient, with space for one small car directly in front of the cottage and additional designated parking for two or three cars nearby.

Located just off the main road, the cottage offers both accessibility and a sense of seclusion. The vibrant centre of Chipping Norton is only a short walk or drive away, where you’ll find independent shops, pubs, and local eateries. We are also just over 10 minutes to Soho Farmhouse and Daylesford, making the home the perfect base for exploring the local area. For fans of Clarkson`s Farm, Diddly Squat Farmshop and The Farmer`s Dog are also both within driving distance of the cottage! We also have a Little Waitrose garage (open 24 hours) away offering fast EV charging and groceries just 50m down the road.

The home has a remarkable history - Dr Samuel Johnson and James Boswell dined here in 1776 - and it`s the very tavern where Johnson made his celebrated declaration that `there is no place where people can enjoy themselves so well as at a capital tavern`!

Queen Victoria and her mother, the Duchess of Kent, are also recorded to have stayed at Chapel House several times when travelling through the area. The site itself has hosted travellers for over 500 years - first as a medieval Brasenose College chapel (closed by Henry VIII), then as a coaching inn, then in WW2 as a Home Guard muster point and a billet for child evacuees from London. Today the original Georgian stable range is your home for the stay. Three centuries of travellers, in one of the prettiest corners of the Cotswolds.

Perfectly positioned for exploring the Cotswolds, the area is surrounded by rolling hills, picturesque villages, and scenic walking routes, making it an ideal base for a relaxing countryside escape.
