My wife and I recently spent 2 nights at this magnificent hotel and golf resort (Aug.9th and 10th) We stayed in the beautifully restored old residential school building Which I would recommend over the new building associated with the casino. We live in Victoria and have stayed in many Fairmont hotels over the years and love the Empress hotel. This hotel reminded us of the Empress right down to the spectacular ivy covered stone facade beautifully highlighted by lighting at night, and the grand front entrance. The hallways were wide and beautifully appointed with furniture and oriental carpets in the manner of old world European hotels. The room was lovely with a comfortable king sized bed, generous storage and updated bathroom. The heating/cooling was flawless but what I liked best was the fact that the windows opened to let in the night breezes - and no bugs! The view from our rear facing room was overlooking the golf course. We had a magnificent meal in the hotel restaurant which again wasn't expected. The wine list was excellent and I had a wonderful bison short ribs while my wife had a lovely brined chicken. The golf course was very well maintained, and the design was both forgiving and challenging. The power carts had excellent on board distance gps. And the fees were a real bargain. I am determined to bring a group of my golfing partners on a golf trip through the interior and stay here for a few rounds. So there it is - a fantastic find
