Some places ask you to sightsee. This one asks you to stop. Tucked into the northern tip of Bruny Island with the channel stretched out below, this recently renovated two-bedroom retreat is the kind of place that makes slowing down feel like the whole point of the trip.



Every corner here has been designed to keep you facing the water. A large open-plan living area sets the tone from the moment you walk in — a fully equipped kitchen ready for everything from a quick breakfast to a proper seafood feast, a substantial wooden dining table built for long lunches, and a sitting area anchored by a wood fire and wall panel heaters that make even the coldest Bruny evening feel cosy.

French doors fold open onto a sweeping balcony that wraps around the property, framing views out over the bay toward the mainland. Outdoor seating and a BBQ make this the natural spot for a lazy breakfast or an evening drink as the light changes over the water. Down below, a brand-new fire pit area is made for toasting marshmallows or sharing a bottle of wine under some of the clearest night skies in Tasmania.



The master bedroom offers a queen bed and ocean views to wake up to; the second bedroom is furnished with two singles, ideal for family or a small group travelling together.



The bathroom doubles as a laundry, with a washing machine tucked neatly away — a small detail that makes longer stays a lot more comfortable.



Dennes Point itself is a short drive from the ferry terminal at Roberts Point, and it's worth exploring before you even unpack — the Jetty Café (Bruny Island Wild) sits right by Nebraska Beach, serving breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake in a relaxed, waterside setting, with a general store and art gallery next door for provisions and local crafts. Open Fri - Sun only.



Further south, Bruny opens up into one of Tasmania's best food trails: stop for oysters straight off the boat at Get Shucked, sample local cheese and beer at Bruny Island Cheese & Beer, or settle in for lunch and a glass of something local at Bruny Island Premium Wines. Don't miss The Neck — the narrow, dune-backed isthmus joining North and South Bruny, with a boardwalk lookout that's especially magic at dusk when little penguins come ashore.

Further south again, Adventure Bay is the gateway to walking tracks through Fluted Cape and Mavista Falls, and Cape Bruny Lighthouse marks the island's dramatic southern tip.



Whether you're here for the food, the walks, or simply the fire pit and the view, this is Bruny at its most relaxed — and this is the perfect base to enjoy it from.
