Needs a little love.
Beautiful location, I could’ve sat outside the bar all day.
The room looked a bit tired. Chipped furniture, hole in the plaster under the tv. The shower screen hung over the outside of the bath.
Limited menu in the restaurant. I remember the priest house being very elegant. It’s now ok.

Beautiful place.
Second stay for us, stayed last year for the Donnington historic festival. Hotel grounds are beautiful. Room was in the “cottage” which was clean and a good shower. Hotel was hosting a wedding so it was a bit noisy into the small hours. Disappointed that breakfast didn’t start until just after 8 with many people waiting and we had to rush to get to our event.
Stayed for just one night but the staff were SO nice and the room was excellent - quiet, comfy bed etc. Breakfast was good and check in/out quick and easy. Very highly recommended.
Very unclean. Hairs on the bed stains on the wall. A lot of yellow urine left on toilet seat. A lot of damage in the room. Dents and cracks in door and walls. Stains all over chair fabric and carpet gloor. Very hard to open the one window in the room. Reception smelt strongly of salmon when I checked in and checked out. Beautiful location from the outside. Very close to the race track and east mid airport. Scrambled egg and mushrooms very nice on breakfast buffet. Very friendly male member of staff greeting people for breakfast on Monday morning. Could be helpful to add a light and a sign to make it easier to find your way round at night. Inside is in need of an uplift
Definitely not a 4 star hotel.

The whole place could be amazing. Please do the basic maintenance on this lovely building (fixing dripping taps, washing carpets, fixing walls & new curtains wouldnt break the bank). You really feel the wow factor as soon as you drive up to this beautiful place and building. Unfortunately the lack of maintenance of the beautiful buildings and surrounding let the place down (now wow factor when you open the door). The bridge (which has plastic road blocks at the edge) looks like it to could collapse at any minute and the river edge patio is just a blocked off area of bricks. The rooms in the main building look very small and the cottage rooms really do need some TLC & some character. The hotel is very function focussed so reception etc.. is loverly but it is over priced until the rooms are in better condition. The bed was very comfortable but take air plugs if you are staying in the cottage rooms as you can hear every move the neighbours make and hear ever car that drives far to fast you window. Hopefully at some point the repairs will be done and I would then like to go back.

Staff were helpful and friendly. Checking in and out was a breeze. Amazing location by the river with plenty of parking. That being said, the room I stayed in was in dire need of some TLC — broken/missing switches, rotten wooden window frames, poor sink drainage, even the ironing board was old and tired, with loose fittings that made it wobble during use.
Stayed two nights. Cottages are clean and comfortable inside but exterior needs some TLC. Grounds are lovely as is being next to the river. Staff very friendly and food good. Would definitely stay again.
We had a fantastic stay as normal, excellent evening meal, excellent breakfast, excellent Stocker Room with views to the River Trent, it was quiet and peaceful in a beautiful location, everything we required for our wedding anniversary stay, I look forward to our next stay.
Historically very interesting hotel, friendly staff, good food. My only criticism is that the cottage we stayed in definitely needed some love!

Stayed in garden room which was 'past it's best'. Evening meal disappointing with poor choices and over expensive dishes. Confit chicken with cassoulet had 'one bean' and was poorly balanced. Small glass of wine ordered, large glass served and charged with no explanation. Breakfast was good. Excellent position next to river and ideal for airport or stop when travelling on M1.
