Nepal accommodation from NZ$77

Set between India and Tibet, Nepal may look small on a map, but when you touch down on this rugged land, you’ll find yourself on the doorstep of many big discoveries. From the towering peak of Mount Everest to the birthplace of Buddha, as well as stunning natural beauty, a trip to Nepal will be one you’ll remember!

Things to Do in Nepal

Your holiday in Nepal can be an outdoor paradise, a spiritual journey or a trip through bustling villages, depending on where you book your Nepal accommodation. In the city of Kathmandu you can wander through ancient temples and shrines, snap some pics of the famous monuments in Durbar Square and pick up beautiful artisanal crafts made by the locals.

Eventually, though, you’ll want to address the elephant in the room. Okay, it’s not so much an elephant as a mountain. Nepal is home to Mt. Everest, and even if you aren’t ready to hire a Sherpa and have a go at the peak, you can still hike the area and test how well you do in the thin air. Rafting, kayaking and “tea-house treks” are also popular tourist excursions. When you work up an appetite, make your tummy happy with the country’s national dish, dall bhaat tarkaari (spiced lentils poured over rice and served with vegetables) and a glass of the local alcohol, raski.

Getting to & Around Nepal

Fly into Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), located in Kathmandu. Outside, taxis are waiting to take you to your destination, though many Nepal hotels in Kathmandu can send a taxi for you. You can take a domestic flight from KTM to the region of your choice. If you are staying in a larger city, hop onto a micro bus or live like a local and rent a rickshaw. It should be noted that many areas of Nepal are not reachable by paved roads. That’s why you brought your hiking shoes with you, right?
