Pretty town house Dinan, Brittany

This is a pretty little 19th Century house located within the walls of the medieval town of Dinan in Brittany.
Its position in 'Le Jardin Anglais' (The English Garden) and beside the magnificent St Saveur Basilica is quite unique. Only a few minutes walk from the centre of the town with its restaurants, crepêries, shops and bars, it is nevertheless a peaceful and idyllic area. The house has been renovated to a high standard and is beautifully furnished and well equipped. The main living area is on the first floor so that the views of the church and the garden can be enjoyed. It includes: a modern kitchen, a lounge area with multi language TV, DVD and hifi stereo, a dining area and a mezzanine office area with wifi. There are two double bedrooms, one large on the ground floor with en-suite bath, and one smaller on the top floor with en-suite shower. Although very compact, the space within the house is well designed and is ideal for one or two couples.

Dinan Town: Dinan is an architectural gem, ringed by 2,700 metres of ramparts. Its historic streets contain 15th and 16th Century half-timbered houses as well as Renaissance residences, Romanesque and Gothic churches and ancient chapels and convents.

The view from the Jardin Anglais is quite breathtaking, looking down on the ancient port and the magnificent viaduct which spans the River Rance.

A strenuous but rewarding walk is from the town to the port via the steep Rue du Petit Fort, one of the oldest streets in Dinan.

The town has over 35 eateries ranging from no frills bars to traditional creperies to cordon bleu restaurants.

Each Thursday there is a large market for fresh vegetables, cheese, bread and all sorts of other gastronomic delights.

Northern Brittany: Dinan lies 20 kilometers due south of the spectacular northern Brittany coastline. There are many beautiful beaches and resorts to explore including the historic fortified port of St Malo which is 35 minutes drive and the lovely seaside town of Dinard only 30 minutes away.

The capital city of Brittany is Rennes which is 50 minutes drive to the south, and well worth a day visit.

Inland Brittany is steeped in history and there are many fascinating places to visit including the fortress town of Fougeres and the towns and villages that skirt the River Rance.

This quant property is perfectly located to enjoy the full ambience of medieval Dinan. The owners and manager are very pleasant to deal with and we really appreciated the English touches, particularly with the entertainment system. Everything worked well and overall it was a most comfortable experience.

Second stay as good as the first

This was our fourth stay in Dinan and our second at Rob & Jacci’s place in Dinan, a city we like a lot, both for itself and as a base from which to explore NE Brittany and W Normandy. The use was immaculate as before, and unchanged so far as we could see. We hopeto come again!

A well-placed little gem in Dinan

This is a lovely apartment; everything was beautifully done…and so much thoughtful attention to detail everywhere. The owners have compiled excellent information about the apartment and the town. The location is fantastic: peaceful and quiet. You can easily walk to everything. NOTE: be sure to get clear, specific directions to the apartment and also to the correct parking garage. We had a very difficult time with both upon our arrival but finally got it figured out. All in all this is a very special and charming place; we felt very lucky to have found it. Thank you, Jacci et Rob!

A relaxing week in Dinan

We had a lovely week, just what we wanted after our daughters had finished their exams. The house was perfect, they loved the upstairs room and the view of the church was amazing. The dog enjoyed herself too! The location couldn't have been any better, beside the little park with amazing views and a lovely pub and cafe just 2 mins walk away, and central to the rest of town. We are already familiar with the area and love the nearby coastline and all the local markets.

A month in Dinan

My wife and I decided to stay for a month in Brittany and chose this ideally located apartment in the Dinan Historic Centre. It is situated on the lovely Jardin Anglais and is 100 metres from the city wall overlooking the Rance River valley. With the exception of a newly opening B&B nearby, it is the only apartment situated on the garden and an easy walk to shops, cafes, grocery stores and launderettes. It is next to the Basilica, which thankfully does not chime during sleeping hours. We had a fair amount of cool, wet weather in May, but the house manager Cecily kindly came by to refresh our linens every 7-10 days. The kitchen was quite adequate to cook a variety of meals, with several spices and condiments available. There was a wealth of information on the area and there is underground parking available, which is a huge plus. We felt quite at home and were sorry to leave--thanks again to Jacci and Rob!

What can we say about this property other than perfect. Everything there as listed, spotlessly clean and comfortable, we cannot think of one negative thing. Infact one of the best Xmas and New year we have had. Highly recommend this beautiful house.

Idyllic Holiday Home for two

Great location for seeing Dinan, as everything is on the doorstep, literally. Well equipped home, perfect for a couple and comfortable. There are some stairs in the property up to the living room/kitchen and second bedroom, so be prepared when taking shopping upstairs. A lovely little park outside the front door with views down to the port of Dinan. Plenty of restaurants and a good market on Thursdays. Well recommended holiday home.

Quiet and beautiful spot in the centre of Dinan

Small three storey house overlooking the basilica and English garden. Kitchen and living room on first floor approached by open tread staircase which did not deter our cocker spaniel. Bathroom next to bedroom on ground floor was filled by a huge bath, difficult to negotiate! Owner, Jacci, was very helpful with driving instructions and parking.

Excellent location next to a 1000 year old beautiful basilica. Located close to everything in Dinan and also reasonable drives to places like Normandy, Mont St Michael, San Malo. We rented E bikes in Dinard for a great ride to beach and a castle. Strongly recommend!

Outstandingly beautiful and convenient location

Overlooking a small park, this little house is otherwise surrounded by ancient buildings, including the medieval St Sauveur basilica and the streets and squares of old Dinan. There's a most convenient shortcut past the chapel of what used to be a convent, now the town library, to the clean, secure car park. The owners have done a great job in equipping and decorating the house and supplying excellent directions and guides. Strongly recommended for one or two couples.

Perfect location for a holiday in Dinan

A well appointed house in a wonderful location. The bedding was spotlessly clean but as the week progressed we started to notice some “old dust” and cobwebs. My friends lifted the mattress in the bottom bedroom to remove the bedding, as requested, it was very dusty underneath. Both frying pans and the spatula needed cleaning before we would use them, as we only cooked twice so we didn’t investigate any further. The oven needs a clean, as it warmed up it was quite smokey and smelly. We only used it to keep plates warm as we cooked on the hob. The mattresses and pillows were very comfortable but to list the top room as a double is a bit naughty. So little space on either side to get in to bed, in fact the left hand side would have been impossible for a lot of people. I am 76 and have arthritis, not over weight but not very agile. Anyone bigger than me would have been seriously challenged. The ground floor bedroom is spacious so problem there but the bath/shower arrangement needs a couple of grab rails to be safe getting in and out plus there is no window nor extractor fan and sometimes the bathroom was a bit dank smelling. Such a pity to give any negative comments but we hope what is said above will be received as constructive because it can all be remedied or made very explicit in the details. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Brittany and would give the house 8.5/10.

Everything was fantastic

This is obviously a second home that is being rented out rather than a house bought to rent out for an income, and it shows. There are lots of nice, thoughtful, little touches throughout. The photos and descriptions are accurate and although quite small, it was very comfortable and cosy for the three of us. We have been using VRBO for many years and this is definitely one of the best choices we have made. I won't go into too much detail about the house and the area as other reviews already cover this. The only added information I would offer would be to say that "Cozy" restaurant was fantastic. The only extra thing I'd ask from the owner - tell us where to buy the wine that was left for us - I'm not a wine connoisseur - but I do enjoy wine and that was a very nice bottle of red - thank you.

Delightful and highly individual house in a magnificent location

We had a great fortnight here in September - and such wonderful weather! Rob and Jacci kept our much delayed booking from before COVID and we're really pleased we stuck with it. Access details were impressively clear, and cleared up what worried us the most - car parking. When you arrive, there is a pass for a clean, secure and spacious underground car park a couple of minutes' walk away, and you can park outside the house for unloading, etc. Rob phoned us the evening we arrived to check everything was OK, but in truth, the written instructions for the house covered everything with consummate clarity anyway. The house itself is admittedly quite 'bijou', but sofas in the lounge area and the main bed are extremely comfortable, and the dining table had plenty of room for us. The kitchenette has all the equipment you need, but work surfaces are a little limited, and please don't expect a washing machine and dishwasher - again, the descriptions are precise, so please look before you book. A bath and two showers are paired with the bedrooms, and the main bedroom is on the ground floor, so you can just come in the front door and throw yourselves into bed. All is very cleanly presented and the gift of a bottle of wine was much appreciated. The great joy of this house is its position, facing the beautiful basilica of Saint-Sauveur (no, the bells DON'T ring all night, and the house walls are so thick you can hear them or not as you wish). The house is in the corner of the lovely Jardin Anglais which ends in a promenade along ramparts with superb views over the viaduct and Port of Dinan. Dinan itself is a sizeable town and an absolute gem, with a vast range of eating houses and watering holes within easy walking distance. It represents a cross-sectional showcase through the history of French vernacular architecture from the medieval to the modern. The historic centre is jaw-dropping in its beauty - think Diagon Alley in Harry Potter and multiply it many times. Further afield Rennes (also accessible by rail) is less than an hour away by car, as are the mysterious Arthurian forest of Brocéliande and the Emerald Coast. Historic Saint-Malo and chic Dinard are about half an hour away. The highlight for my wife was sitting on the harbour wall at Cancale eating the famous Cancale oysters straight from the growers at a fraction of the price you'd find them in restaurants. Much more to say about this splendid holiday, but I've run out of space!

Lovely place to stay.

A short distance to the centre of Dinan which is very french town with a huge history. Lovely houses dating back centuries, a fine shopping area, lovely cafes, croissants and bagettes for breakfast! All the people we met were so friendly and most were willing to speak English to help us out. I want to go back already! The gite is well equipped and is comfortable for living and sleeping. We had our dog with us and the only downside were the open tread stairs from the ground floor to the first floor. Our dog refused to climb or descend. As the first floor is the living area I had to carry her up and down (25kgs). Despite that I wholeheartedly recommend this place for a relaxed and friendly holiday.

Perfect Location

A great location just a few minutes stroll from the very heart of the historic centre of this lovely town. Excellent underground parking also just a couple of minutes away at a very reasonable weekly rate; (access card provided by the property owner). The house was comfortable and the hall, lounge and kitchen areas were well presented. However, disappointingly the bedrooms and bathrooms were not as clean as they should have been.

Fantastic location

We stayed here for three nights to explore the town and the area. The location couldn't be beat, right next to the basilica and the town square. Parking was easy and convenient with the provided parking pass. The owner was extremely responsive and easy to deal with. The house itself was in great condition. If you are staying there, you should know that the second bedroom is on the top floor with a pretty steep staircase, but there is an ensuite bathroom. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again if we are in Dinan.
