Stay in a Palace

Pros: The architecture and the location

Location: The Zwinger, Opera Theatre, Fruenkirchen, terrasse along the riverside.
A beautiful former palace and very comfortable. Our room (a junior suite) was massive. The restaurants were good, one casual and one more upmarket but not fine dining and I had hoped for the latter. The location was excellent; Dresden is not large and we were able to walk everywhere. A few of the staff are excellent and the rest are pretty good and welcome you on arrival but ignore you as you enter and leave the building (heads down looking at computer screens).
