Walking in and around the area is a joy, from Dumfries there are beautiful riverside walks, many cliff top walks along the Solway coast and forest tracks inland. With several of the famed 7Stanes mountain bike routes close as well as many quiet country lanes to discover from West Lanegate Farmhouse it is a popular area for cyclists.

Take a drive along the coast taking in the lovely little coastal villages such as Kippford and Rockcliffe or enjoy a day at the beach at Sandy Hills. There are many historic sites along your way including Caerlaverock Castle and Drumlanrig Castle is a must where you can take a guided tour of the Castle or just enjoy the many acres of gardens.
