Room broken into and items packed by staff

Would not risk it again. We had a 2 night stay booked over a nice and sunny weekend. As most reviews say, the rooms are sauna, but we had 2 fans and with window opened it was fine. The furniture is outdated but acceptable, could have been run down but it was not. The HUGE negative and the one that will put most people off: Checked in Friday evening, slept the night. Left to explore on Saturday morning and locked the room behind us. On return our key cards didn't work, got them reactivated, thinking nothing of it. Once in - our toothbrushes, toiletries, personal items (clothes, perfumes, underwears) and some very private(!!) items we left behind near bedside, were all gone! Room was not cleaned, but items went missing. We then saw our suitcase in corner of the room (we had left it in the wardrobe), so I opened it and found all our items packed inside it. Turns out they had a "glitch" in their system and they thought we were only staying 1 night. So, when we weren't in on Sat morning, housekeeping took all our stuff, put it in our own suitcase, and took it as 'lost property'. Reception said no manager was on duty then, so wait till next morning. We slept terrified, spoke to manger in the morning who said it happens, there was a witness to staff who packed your stuff, so what is the fuss about? The fuss is someone entered, touched and put away your items in your absence, opened your bag and packed it! That is invasion of privacy whilst being paid for that room by us!!!!

I had a gorgeous 4th floor Seaview room which was spacious and clean. My only negative was the lack of housekeeping.

Loved it. Loved my room. Bed really comfy, hot bath, just great. Only downside was that the room was so warm despite there being no heating which was weird but hey, still, better than being cold. Will definitely be staying again.

Had a lovely time, although we couldn’t bring any food back to our room due to no fork ect. The hotel is cashless which I was unaware of.

Lovely old hotel on the seafront, parking, very friendly staff, good hot breakfast on hot plates 😁 needs a bit of TLC but with 140 rooms on a building of this age, you expect some ongoing maintenance. Large airy room clean and tidy, could do with updating, but I’m sure they will achieve that in time. Would I stay there again, most definitely, exceptional value for money if you are looking for a cheap place to stay in Eastbourne. Much better than most Travel Lodge’s I’ve stayed in and the breakfast was really good 😊 👍👍

A restful short holiday break.

Friendly and helpful staff. Spacious clean room with great view. Good value with easy parking. Denisa at Reception gets 5 stars. Very helpful, cheerful and friendly. Hotel is in a great location. You cannot ask for more.

Had a double room with sea view. Although at the lower end of cost and the room being fairly clean where it mattered, ie: bed, bathroom etc:, there were parts of the room that were tired and not clean. Shower rail rusty and window ledges were dirty. Overall, cheap room for seafront so adequate.

We stayed at the Cavendish last Friday 14th February, after attending a funeral, we were pleasantly surprised by Reception and foyer, however, @ 4AM there was a fire alarm, which was not handled very well, as a former fire Marshall, there was no protocol in place, no one at fire exit to guide us, and general confusion, every one made their way to Reception, who did not have a very hood grasp on the situation and seemed rather flustered and no one took control, if indeed there had been a fire, there would have been lots of casualties, this really spoiled our experience at the Cavendish, and when we tried to express our feelings in the morning were met with a very dismissive receptionist, who did not see how upset we were and we were not even offered breakfast for the inconvenience of the night before, or any explanation , simply saying that regular fire alarms and drills were deployed in day times, however people react so different in the middle of the night , disturbed from sleep, disoriented etc and with no guidance .

1) Normal check-in is at 15:00 hours. We arrived at 13:30 and went to reception to pay for two days of car parking. We were told that the room was not ready and to come back at 15:00. We came back at 15:30 and was given the keys to room 112. On entering, the room was not made up and in a complete mess. It was reported to Reception and was offered a corner room with a limited sea view. This was refused as we had booked a sea view room. We asked if the room could be made up whilst we waited but the house keeping staff had gone home. Reception gave us another room with a sea view and we moved in. 2) Dinner was served by what looked like the maintenance man wearing his work clothes. He was the only waiter on duty. The next day we saw him cleaning the car park. I have photos but have not posted them. 3) Day 2 Dinner, the wine glass placed on our table was broken with a large chunk missing from it resulting in spillage when filling with water. We have stayed here before with no complaints but this was not a good experience considering it is advertised as a 4 star hotel.
