Everyone knows New Zealanders are pretty laid back, so consider extending your stay and check out the Picasso Museum and Buitrago City Walls, in Buitrago del Lozoya, 13 kilometres to the northwest of El Berrueco. Should you wish to spend a few nights in Buitrago del Lozoya, be sure to check out the Las Posadas del Arroyo and Las Posadas del Nogal. 55 kilometres to the southwest of El Berrueco, you can also stay at San Lorenzo de El Escorial, which is home to the Hotel Florida and El Escorial Victoria Palace. If you stay in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, set aside a little time to check out the El Escorial, Valley of the Fallen and El Real Coliseo de Carlos III Theater.

Get your fix of local sport with a visit to The Magic Box, which is 60 kilometres to the south of El Berrueco. The Hotel Ganivet and the HRC Hotel are both good options if you want to get into it.

If you book this hotel and you use Google maps to find it, then put in Gandullas only as this is the village the hotel is in. Maps took me to 3 different places before some locals at my third stop gave me the correct address. They said I was in Pinuecar and not Gandullas. Very hard to find. But then I was able to access the property but there is nothing in the village by way of bars or restaurants. I had to go onto the next town to find something to eat. But I have to say I had a comfortable night and the room was good and the bed good and it was very quiet. It was a clean establishment so for the price I have to admit it was very much worth it. Just make sure you have a phone to contact the owner to get in and then go to the nearest town to find food and drinks.
