Hoh Chalet A cozy cabin on the Olympic Peninsula

The Hoh Chalet is a cozy cabin located on the Olympic Peninsula in the Hoh River Basin. It is heated with a woodstove and has spiral stairs to get up to both bedrooms. Pictures of stairs are in additional photos in this listing.

The space
The Chalet is a small cabin, just 400 sq ft per floor. It is an independant home and is powered by solar energy. The inside is DIY finished with repurposed materials. Only the appliances are new.
This two-story cabin has 2 bedrooms upstairs with a double bed in each, no doors, and a desk in the hall. The entry level has a kitchenette, bathroom, dining area and common area with a hide-a-bed in the sitting room. It is heated with a woodstove; firewood, cable TV, and Wi-Fi are provided.

Guest access
There is plenty of parking, with a carport for smaller vehicles. You are welcome to walk down the road, and tour our property. We have a berry farm and U-Pick berries starting in late June as well as a grocery garden, and a path through our wooded area. A large communal fire pit is located behind our retail shack where Hoh Made Jam, Native Hoh River Smoked Salmon, and local arts and crafts are available.
Other things to note
Access to the upper floor is via a spiral staircase. If you have small children or do not do stairs easily, this may not be for you.
Pets are allowed, but they may not be left unattended.

This is a unique property and one of the few available in this area with easy access to Olympics hiking trails. I salute the owner for her work to create this cabin using recycled, repurposed and natural items. The use of solar and wood-fired heating are so suitable for this natural oasis. The on-demand water heater was a surprisingly modern element. We appreciated the huge dispenser of bottled spring water. Owner Dianne greeted us upon arrival and even offered to share a salmon caught by la local tribal fisherman.

Charming property--very nice proprieter. . .(sp?). . .comfortable little house w full kitchen. Very near Ruby Beach so we could go watch the sunset on that lovely beach. . .A plus for me was there were two dogs and two cats on the property but not near our rental hut. But I could go visit them. . .Be aware the spiral stairs to second floor are not for everyone but the two bedrooms on second floor were cozy and with great lighting for reading. Altogether a charming stay.

Once upstairs, bedrooms roomy and comfortable. Lovely reclaimed wood countertops and base. A bit dark inside for old eyes and shower temperature a bit difficult to control. Great location to Ruby beach and Hoh rainforest.

Adorable small house, quaint like a hobbit house, reflecting host Diane’s creativity and innovation. The stairs are steep and small and curve which may be an issue for those with mobility issues. The gardens are magazine worthy and beautiful surrounding the house with the lovely sound of a small pond with koi (or large goldfish?). Diane is an ideal host - friendly and helpful. Thank you for a memorable stay!

Death trap! Driving up, this home appears to be in a junkyard. The first thing we noticed upon walking in was a strong smell of mold and cigarettes. The lights looked to be DIY, daisy-chained across the ceiling with electrical wires exposed. That's a major fire and electrocution risk. The spiral stairs were perilously narrow with a loose hand rail, so add in a fall risk. The master bed was right in front of a sliding glass door to a porch with no curtains or blinds. No privacy. This whole house felt like a DIY project, which was especially scary knowing it had exposed wires and a propane tank. The house was unlocked with open windows when we got there, with quite a few doors and hiding places for a human or critter. We were terrified to stay here, and we left after about a few minutes for the nearest hotel. The host did come out to greet us politely, but stood between us and our child so there was no way we were going to confront her there. No response from the host when we requested a refund.

Diana took care of all the details to make sure we have a comfortable stay. We share plans ti prepare a barbecue and everything was set already at our arrive. Cabin is super cute and well maintain. Everything was clean and ready to use. We stay only one nigh during an atmospheric river storm, no water, internet and phone signal was available. We do have power as tge cabin has solar panels. Overall we enjoy the adventure. We will came back for sure.

Great location and unique property

Diane was so welcoming and hospitable. Kids loved looking around the property and seeing all of the ways that she has put sustainable, unique touches. We bought a carton of chanterelle mushrooms in the jam shack that were the highlight of our home cooked meal. Thank you Diane!

The cabin is in a good location to visit the west side of ONP. Forks had all the supplies we needed. The cabin is truly one of a kind and Diana has created it all. We admired her passion for her cabin and all the hard work she has put into it. She was very welcoming to us and invited us to explore her property and pick our own berries! She was a great host. The cabin was more homestead style rather than modern. Her description is correct.

Best of Hoh

Excellent location and accommodations. Very unique design and off grid feel while still close to Ruby Beach and Hall of Mosses. The wood countertops, spiral staircase and one of a kind fire pit patio were highlights for us. The mosaic floors and luxurious bathroom were pleasant surprises and cherished memories. The kitchen was complete and we made a scrumptious breakfast before tidepool discoveries at the beach only minutes away.
