While the apartment looks newly renovated and is clean, it is misrepresented in the listing. It was supposed to have air conditioning and a washer and dryer. However when I arrived there was only a washing machine. While it was not hot in Madeira, the 5 minute uphill hike to the apartment left me sweaty every time. I contacted the host multiple times and they never gave me an answer about these missing items. They told me there was a fan I could use. What was also annoying is that it often took a day or two to respond. After a few days they even stopped responding to me entirely. I reached out to VRBO but they’ve been slow to act also claiming that there’s a language barrier with the host. I don’t understand how an international company like Vrbo doesn’t have a way to communicate in the local language with the hosts. If they are not going to staff interpreters then maybe they should limit their listings to only those in languages they can support. Lastly the interior walls in this newly renovated apartment are very thin. I was able to hear my noisy neighbors when they stumbled home late at night and had lively discussions while stomping up and down the adjacent loft. So in summary if you want a non responsive host that misrepresents their newly renovated thin walled apartment up a steep hill, this is the rental for you.
