Villa Toscana is a contemporary Japandi-inspired villa in São Martinho, Funchal, shaped for slow mornings, open-air living and the quiet pleasure of space. Set in the prestigious Casa Branca area, within a residential cul de sac, it brings together the ease of a city address with the feeling of a private architectural retreat.
Designed by RH+ Arquitectos, the villa has a clear, modern presence softened by warm wood, natural textures and light that moves generously through the interiors. Its atmosphere is composed rather than ornamental. Japandi and Scandinavian influences, integrated joinery and discreet lighting give the house a calm visual rhythm, while wide glass openings draw the garden, pool and horizon into everyday life.
The experience begins on the main social floor, where the living room, dining area and open kitchen unfold towards the terrace. This is a house made for lingering. Breakfasts beside the morning light, family lunches that move outdoors, evenings by the pool, and conversations that continue as Funchal begins to glow below. The kitchen is central to that rhythm, designed not only for function, but for gathering.
Outside, the heated private pool, maintained between 25°C and 30°C, becomes the natural centre of the stay. Integrated steps, night lighting, sun loungers, an outdoor lounge, barbecue and dining area create a fluid sequence between water, garden and terrace. Cypress, bonsai and cedar trees add texture and shade, bringing a gentle Mediterranean and Atlantic character to the setting.
Above the villa, the rooftop offers another kind of pause. With lounge seating, sun loungers and open views across the sea and city, it is a place for reading, resting or watching the light shift over Funchal. From the upper floor, the games room extends this sense of ease, with generous views, rooftop access and space for relaxed evenings.
Villa Toscana accommodates up to eight guests across four bedrooms. Three king bedrooms include en suite bathrooms, while the twin bedroom offers a comfortable workspace. The master suite brings a more private note, with a freestanding bath, double vanity and walk-in rain shower. Throughout the bedrooms, mountain views, soft tones, considered storage and blackout curtains support a stay that feels effortless over several days or several weeks.
The villa is also well suited to longer stays and multigenerational travel, with two living areas, a private gym, laundry facilities, high-speed Wi-Fi, air conditioning throughout, electric curtains and gated parking for two cars. Each practical detail is present without interrupting the architectural calm of the house.
Private chef, local breakfasts, transfers and extra housekeeping can be arranged on request, at an additional cost. Villa Toscana is a place to experience Madeira through light, design and the ease of living beautifully between indoors and out. Managed exclusively by Madeira Dream Stays.
