Listed as an air conditioned room and it was not. It has a non functioning air conditioning unit that just blows air. Staff was incredibly rude would pick up the phone in front of you instead of greeting you and asking you to wait a minute or helping you. Staff never addressed the ac issue. Door lock was not great. Pictures are probably from when they first opened, the lights were falling off the wall and hanging all sideways, shower leaked and wasn’t adjustable so you could actually use it. No sage place to drop off luggage

The room was freezing in December so I had to keep the windows closed mostly, however opening them during cooking as much as possible. I will admit this was not totally sufficient to air the room out from the cooking. Cleaner and manager being very rude and insistant on entering the room, during middle of COVID times, due to the food smell, I told them I would open windows to air room. The rudeness was uneccessary and I cancelled my future bookings and had a great month in other hotels/apartments with no similar issues, becuase these hotels had good ventilation and/or heating.

The hotel needs to have large scale renovation. The reception entrance is dark and un-inviting. The TV in the room was outdated by at least 20 years. After using the toilet or shower I would be deafened by the pipes making a terrible whining noise. The Shower curtain rails need to raised because the shower curtains are bunched up at the bottom of the shower tray. The room and bed sheets were clean and neat.

Property is in need of updating. We were unable to access the bathroom easily. The door would not open fully and you had to squeeze through a gap. There were no hooks to hang your clothes, or enough shelf space for 2 person’s toiletries. Shower curtain was far too long for the bath. It was too small to move in the bathroom. Kitchenette was not equipped well. Unmatched crockery, not enough cutlery (no knives or teaspoons) and damaged forks. Kitchen rug was not very clean. No drawers or shelves to put clothes away. Only a hanging wardrobe. Unable to open the shutters fully, to allow light into the room. No ‘stays’ on shutters to stop them banging in the wind. Cloth on sofa and dining chairs needs to be cleaned, as showing lots of stains. Breakfast room was ok, if you were indoors. However, if you sat on the terrace you were faced with pigeons that would peck at your feet and climb on the tables! There was no air conditioning or fan in the room. To get cooler air you had to open the window, but this meant it got very noisy in the room, making it difficult to sleep as the was constant traffic outside. Bed was comfortable, however, my friend and I have both come home with a lot of bites (especially on the last night). Possible bed bug bites. This was reported to staff.

If Wifi is important to you, it was a bit hit and miss but there was a note in the room from the manager to say upgrade work was being done. The studio apartment had a fridge freezer, microwave and basic stove top, useful for bits and pieces but not well enough equipt for a full meal preparation. Bathroom was a bit cramped, toilet, bidet & half bath with shower over in very small space.

Great location, plus the aerobus stops at La Vie shopping centre which is just a couple minutes walk away. Receptionist who greeted us was very friendly and welcoming. Our room was in a separate building a few doors down from reception, which wasn't a problem. Our room overlooked the patio terrace, which might've been annoying if other people decided to use it, but during our stay we didn't notice anyone else out there (it was also a nice place for us to use the wi-fi as it only worked in our room if we stood in the doorway). Minor downsides: the shower gel dispenser was empty... the hallways were very echoey so on our first night we heard loud, drunk people in the early hours of the morning hanging around (it was a Saturday, but this didn't haoproblem didn't persist) ... breakfast choice was limited too (and some people may be annoyed by the pigeons that linger on the balcony for food, however we found it funny). Overall, good value for money, didn't encounter any major problems. I'd recommend the vegan restaurant that is a minute's walk away, it's apparently the only vegan restaurant in Funchal and it was great, felt lucky to be so near it.
