Beach at the back door!

Welcome to our rustic seaside cottage — a character-filled retreat with three bedrooms at the front and a sunny kitchen and sitting area at the back that captures the warm afternoon light.

This is an older coastal cottage, so you’ll notice a few creaks and movements, and at times the sound of the sea booming against the rocks below. It’s all part of the unique atmosphere of this coastline. Occasionally, little blue penguins make their way under the house — a normal and charming part of life here.

Our water supply is untreated, so we recommend boiling it before drinking or bringing your own bottled water.

Beach access is just over the back fence; due to the rock wall, there’s a short walk to reach the main track.

Inside, you’ll find plenty of books, magazines, and games for slow mornings or cosy evenings after exploring the beach.

This is the perfect place to switch off and unwind — there is no Wi‑Fi and no TV, making it ideal for anyone wanting to disconnect and enjoy the peace of the coast.

A needed escape

We loved everything about this place and the wild nature of the surrounding mountains and sea. My partner and I needed to re set our mental health and this was the perfect place to do it. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we extended our stay.

Great short break

Loved the cottage, very cosy and quaint. Clean and lovely. Love all the art. Great location. The only thing is the bay window hasn't got a view of the Ocean as there is a stone wall and flax bushes in the way. But still an easy short walk to the beach. Thanks, we loved the cottage, and our stay.

On the beach

Great place to stay to experience a West Coast beach at the front door. Rustic, quirky and a proper Kiwi crib/bach. We loved the blue penguins under the house. Their quirky chirping and calling under the floorboards was thrilling. Eat your heart out, David Attenborough! Never enough to be at all annoying and we actually wanted them to put on more of a performance.

Wir haben uns in Maries liebevoll und geschmackvoll eingerichtetem Haus am Meer sehr wohl gefühlt. Es ist toll, in der Küche alles bis hin zu den Gewürzen vorzufinden, was man brauchen könnte und spannende Bücher und Unterlagen zur Gegend am Wohnzimmertisch. Danke für den angenehmen Aufenthalt!

West Coast Wonder

A sweet little miners cottage, on the beach at Granity. We loved the authentic feel to the place and the beautiful art all around the home. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was great. The plumbing was pretty antiquated and we were glad we took our own water to drink. We koved our time there, very relaxing and so lovely to have the beach so close.

Awesome family holiday home

Great for our family of five. The kids loved it! Collecting stones with access to the beach very close by. Beautiful for early morning walks and sunsets. An easy drive to so many intetesting places on the coast and inland. Friendly locals. Very cool, cosy house with everything we needed. Just bring your own bottled water, everything else was close to perfect :) The only slight negatives was off-street parking is half on the neighbours side and the clothesline could be upgraded. We used it a lot to dry wetsuits, surf gear and damp clothing as there is no dryer. All in all a really memorable stay in a cool quirky house
