Good place, the staff was helpful with local recommendations and such. Nice location on old Route 66, and convenient to the Malpais. Plenty of good dining options, some even walking distance. Like many motels it’s a little old and there were some repair issues - we had some troubles with the lights.

An old motel advertised as a Route 66 throwback, the entire 66 Strip in Grants NM was a haunted ghost town, with this Hotel about the only thing left open. The businesses were decorated perhaps 30 years ago, but almost all were dilapidated and falling down. It was pretty clean, as advertised, but the manager had left her teen daughter in charge, a sweet girl but inexperienced. The room looked like it had not been updated since 1955. The TV and fridge worked, but was plugged in by an extension cord from down the wall. I was too tired to go find another hotel, as as all I wanted was a few hours sleep, I stayed there anyway. The big surprise was no hot water when I went to shower in the morning. So my question to Hotels.com is: How on earth did it get an 8.4 Very Good rating? Not sure I can trust the reviews anymore.

More good than bad

This is definitely a very old and previously shabby property, but many improvements have been made--fresh paint, better quality bedding and towels than I have at home and everything clean. The lobby needs work; it doesn't make a good first impression. But we would stay here again.

Everything was great!!! The host was great loved her. I had a great stay at this motel! The room was very clean, and the housekeeping staff did an excellent job keeping everything fresh and tidy. The staff overall were super friendly and helpful, which made me feel very welcome. The host was especially kind and made check-in smooth and easy. I also really appreciated how safe and quiet the area was—it made for a relaxing and peaceful stay. Would definitely stay here again!

The reviews on the website made this look to be one of the better hotels in town, yet the only thing good about it was the comfort of the bed. It felt very sketchy and unsafe to stay. The locks wouldn’t work. I wouldn’t step in the shower for its condition. Well, it might have been clean. It didn’t feel clean.

We enjoy staying in vintage or retro motels and this was great! Manager was so friendly and addressed our requests. In addition, location was within a mile of a brewery that we drove a few hours to experience...which was also retro! We want to support small business and local motels whenever possible. We recommend this one!

The front desk manager was nice. Upon checking in, she said they don’t usually rent out this room. The wall heater did not work so she brought an old ceramic heater to the room. Extension cords running throughout the room. It was a cold night and the portable heater didn’t do much to warm the room. The immediate area was old, not much nearby.

Work in progress

While it’s clear the new owners are working hard to improve the motel, there is still a bit of work to go. I do hope they can make it a go though. The overall rating we saw online was really high so our expectations were far more then what we experienced.
