The house felt (and even smelled) new and the whole place was modern, spacious, and a very hospitable atmosphere! We stayed there with our young kids and parents, and everyone enjoyed the stay and slept comfortably. If you're staying in the tatami rooms and are used to soft beds, then you'll likely find the bedding to be very firm. You can double up the mattresses and futon. Theres only one bath room, which is typical for homes in Japan and it was very nice and clean. And the sauna felt so good at the end of the days! It was also nice being able to do laundry, though our clothes never dried all the way in the dryer and we ended up hanging them up. The kitchen has all the basics but we didn't do any cooking. Perfect setup for breakfasts at home in the morning before heading out for the day. Overall, we'd definitely stay here again during future trips to Hakone! It felt like a great deal and made our vacation in Hakone even more enjoyable.
