My recent stay at Ala Moana Hotel in Hawaii was extremely disappointing. The noise level was unbearable; doors were constantly slamming and loud footsteps echoed through the walkways. To make things worse, there was a strange mechanical noise that ran consistently throughout the night. Early in the morning around 7am, the room above started repair work, creating nonstop knocking and hammering for over 2 hours. It completely ruined what was supposed to be a relaxing stay. For the price and reputation of this hotel, I expected much better soundproofing and management awareness of guest comfort.

Because I am disabled, I had particular difficulty in locating a room with the role in shower in the category that I wanted and the manager Polly was extremely helpful in finding us a room that was appropriate to my abilities. She was also very kind about the difficulties I might have within The Hotel. She suggested that we try the happy hour at the restaurant signatures on the top floor. Although we’ve stayed at this hotel many times over the years we’ve never been to that restaurant thinking it was just too fancy for us. Turns out the happy hours is perfect. Good value for food options beautiful view nice people and good drink choices. We ended up going there three times over the course of a week and I have recommended it to many of our friends who live in Honolulu, who also would never think to go to dinner at the top of the Alamo Moana hotel. For tourist, visitors and, kama’aina alike we highly recommend it for the happy hour and the view. We also really like the pool area. We don’t always have time to go out there when we’re coming into Honolulu for a doctors appointment or to visit Family, but the availability of Shade and the Small restaurant next-door make it a nice option for a reading your book in the afternoon or taking a nap.

The common areas were nice. The bar is a little too fancy and you can't just walk up and grab a drink, you have to be seated. You can't charge anything to your room on property. The room was clean but showed age. Baseboards were chipped and walls and carpet had stains. The room was also really small and cramped. I couldn't imagine having more than one person stay here. There was live music at the Starbucks in the lobby which was a nice touch. Your immediate area is not the nicest but, a 3 block walk had you in Waikiki. With that said, it was more affordable than most resorts in the area.

We love the friendliness of the staff, the hotel proximity to the beach, shopping and Waikīkī. The parking is pricey but worth the cost.
