This definitely a different experience than your typical hotel--it's a weird old house with antique furniture and gothic turrets. Everything was clean and well maintained though, and the staff was quite friendly. Breakfast was adequate. Essentially it consisted of complimentary access to a well-stocked kitchen. The pool was not the most meticulously maintained but it was clean enough that we felt comfortable swimming, and the pool area is pleasantly shaded and private. Access in and out of the property is through a gated driveway. The parking is a little tight but ultimately it was easy to get in and out, and the location is very convenient to the museum district.

The Texas suite is delightful with a huge tub separate from the toilet and sink area. We have stayed here before and enjoyed the European ambience. The Captain’s room, where our relatives were to stay, however, had such a smell of mold, their skin promptly started itching and breaking out in a rash. They had to leave immediately to find other accommodation. So, sadly, we went, too. The staff was helpful and said they would seek mold inspection but were not able to refund our reservations.
