You get just what you pay for. The room was very nice, aside from a fair few places where it was falling apart, and the shower was a bit dirty. The staff were overall helpful and answered my questions, however, there was a constant pressure to pay in cash and not with a card, which was very annoying and wasn't a preference I was made aware of prior to my stay. Additionally I was offered a breakfast for an added charge, but for some reason this was a preperscribed meal, and I could not choose a different breakfast from the total restaurant menu for some reason, and I was charged above average prices for bottled water. It makes sense for the hotel to cut costs on these things, but for the price of the room I think I would have been happy to pay an extra 10 Euro for free water. I would definitely consider Hotel GoldenGate again, thanks to its price point, but there are things that the owner and staff could do to make a stay far more comfortable, with minimal effort and cost.

This hotel's location is excellent for getting away from tourist mobs. The neighbor is quiet, historic and convenient to transportation. The staff is excellent, friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is excellent...coffee and food. Great value!

Friendly staff, perfect for families you feel very welcoming every time you walk in, most of them speaks a little English, Leo speaks English fluently, he is a very helpful person kids used to like dealing with him Specially in the morning while having breakfast, one day my daughter wasn’t eating he played cartoon on his own phone to make her eat. the bald guy with thick mustache forgot his name used to give my daughter a high five every time we walk passed him, the room is so simple, small, clean there was no elevator but not a big deal we were in the 3rd last floor every single time we walked in with bags they helped us to take everything up stairs, thanks to Leo and the overnight guy for helping us getting our 8 bags down stairs when we were leaving. Bunch of restaurants and groceries around, the public transportation is very close by. Thanks golden gate staff for Making our 15 nights nice.

Good Budget Hotel Outside Center

The Hotel is well located for easy access to IST Airport or Bus Station, or anywhere in the City; with only a 300m walk to Tram line. Also, many decent eateries and small grocery market stores in the neighborhood. Rooms themselves are good size by Istanbul standards, renovated well, clean and furnished comfortably. Also enjoyed their Breakfast. The Staff is very friendly and hospitable. We will return. Recommended.

The location was excellent with good public transport widely available. Service was good. The only criticism I would make is that the sound insulation between the guest rooms did not seem to be very good. Otherwise excellent.

Goldengate gets all my stars!

Although the bed linen was spotless, the room was very small and shabby. However, it was more than made up for by the wonderful staff! I arrived at 01.40 and someone was there especially to carry my luggage and sign me in, which he did with very good grace. The restaurant is outside within a glass enclosure and faces the street. Excellent buffet Turkish style breakfast with friendly staff and elegant seating. I enjoyed watching the world go by and will certainly visit to eat there as I live nearby. I had to stay overnight due to having lost my flat keys at security at the airport (much hassle and many people). I asked help from a gentleman I took to be the Goldengate proprietor/manager and, although he didn't speak English himself, he fetched someone (not hotel staff) who did. The then gentleman contacted a locksmith for me and acted as go-between to arrange for him to meet me at my flat. On my return, he then found a young man to accompany me to carry my suitcases up the six stories of my building (there is no lift). As I'm moving here I had a lot of luggage. I couldn't have had better service or extra-service help at any hotel at all. In fact, I'm certain staff at a five star would not have been able to stop to help me even if they wanted to. I'm so glad I found Goldengate otherwise I can't imagine how I would have got into my flat as I don't yet have friends or contacts who could have helped.
