My wife and I decided to celebrate our anniversary in Sutter Creejk and we chose the Hanford House. Here is our experience: THE GOOD: Quiet, clean deluxe room with king bed. Comfortable bedding with heat unit and gas fireplace that either could be used. THE BAD: No dresser to put your clothes in and no refrigerator even though one was advertised. The clerk appeared to put the blame on Hotels.com. THE UGLY: We were told there would be no breakfast at the Element restaurant the next morning due to a previously reserved group event. Instead we were given a gift card to a coffee/pastry shop down the street. It was not a full breakfast place but we made do with what they had. The next morning we expected breakfast at the Element but when we entered the restaurant there was no staff present. Confused and angry at this development we protested to a staff member that did show up. She contacted her superior and we were told that we had the option of another gift card to the same coffee/pastry shop as before or we could take the $40 as a refund to our room cost. We opted for the refund. To their credit we did get an email of apology from the manager and an offer to discount a room in the future should we choose to return. That was our experience.

Very nice hotel. Nice rooms. Friendly staff (though minimal interaction with them). And the scones and coffee each morning is a nice touch. Overall, just rather expensive for what you get it. We’ll probably look elsewhere next time because of that.

We loved our stay at The Hanford House. The rooms are very nice, clean and beautiful. The beds and pillows are super comfortable. The added morning delivery of fresh baked scones to your door with fresh coffee is such a well thought out addition. We will definitely stay here everytime we visit our family in Sutter Creek!

We have stayed in Room 10 the last three visits since 2020. Good size room, wonderful staff. The little extras have decreased over the years. The room needs some maintenance. The screen door is torn, one of hooks to hold back the blackout curtains is still barely hanging on. (Was the same a year ago.) The fireplace is out of order. Not huge projects but the touches that matter. Also more comfortable furniture for the patios would be nice or a least pads for the metal chairs. Again the little details. Last unfortunately is it’s time for a new mattress, I slept in a hole last night. We will of course come back. It’s just time to bring the place up to the level of expectation it’s known for.
