Nice boutique hotel

Hotel was modern, nice and clean and not too far from bars, restaurants and river - about 10-15 min walk or only a couple of mins by tuk tuk. We had a ground floor room at the rear of hotel and it was very noisy. Noise from the street behind and what may have been building works in a room behind - jack hammers, drills etc. Very loud speaker & music from 6am one morning.

Primarily for the noise issue that you experienced. This noise, which is related to traditional Cambodian culture, is something that we have no direct control over and is definitely not always easy to have abated. We are indeed sorry that you were annoyed by this aspect of your otherwise perfect stay. Cambodian traditional custom is to celebrate life events such as death, the end of life or wedding, death and the 7 or 100-day acknowledgment of a relative passing. These events are typically celebrated by conducting or staging festivities that may consist of loud music, monk chanting and rowdy feasting with friends and relatives. Events can last between one to three days, often commencing early in the morning and extending continuously through until late at night. Such customs are practiced all over Cambodia, not just in Kampot but in villages, towns, and provinces right across the kingdom. The unfortunate aspect of your time spent with us here at Hotel Five.S was that an ending o life celebration was being held on our doorstep, not far from the resort. What I would like to kindly point out to our readers of this webpage is that in over plus valued guest reviews on our Expedia webpage, there have been very few mentions of noise disturbance. We have certainly had other instances since we opened in September 2017 where neighbors have celebrated traditional Cambodian life. If we have an opportunity again to welcome you.
