Older resort in a stunning beachside location with a huge pool. Most staff were friendly and helpful, especially Julie. My ground floor room was spacious with a renovated bathroom & terrace. Unfortunately the old, heavy timber furniture was dated, whilst the poor lighting, multiple light switches and heavy curtains combined to create a dark ambience. The bed mattress was firm and uncomfortable. Breakfasts were disappointing - eg limited range of cereals and fresh fruit, malfunctioning toaster. Service staff seemed bored and disinterested. Heaps of customer service improvement and building/grounds maintenance are required eg painting of timber railings, broken step tiles, rubbish at foot of stair wells. Local shops outside the Hotel include a mini-market but only a single major restaurant.

Relaxing

We arrived at night n were greeted by friendly staff. The lady that showed us to our Villa was extremely informative n helpful. The villas are roomy n were cleaned daily n had a outside shower which we enjoyed using. Plenty of options to eat outside the resort but most were closed as it was quiet season. The maehaad Resort restaurant wasnt expensive and had a variety of choices for breakfast n dinner. The beach is clean n we snorkelled most days. Also i recommend the cocktails at the bar.

Avoid this experience!

The women at check-in were among the most apathetic, insolent horrors I have come across in many years of travel. The approach to solving a problem was to refuse everything and hide behind "its our policy". They refused to escalate the problem to the manager and made fun of us for booking this hotel (prepaid through expedia). The lackadaisical service carries across to other resort staff too, where you would expect a staff member to locate a sun lounge mattress for you, the reply I got was being waived over to the pool and take someone elses. The deluxe rooms are nice enough but lack design and thoughtless use of space... don't expect any view other than reception or the pool. The resort beach is an even bigger disappointment. Gravel with cement poles holding in the sand. This hotel is not on the picture postcard beach, however it is a short walk away from it, but just means you do not get the benefit of the hotel sun lounges to lie on the beach, instead fight for your stretch of sand with the boat loads of back backpackers that spend the day on the best part of the beach. The beach becomes unswimable at low tide where you can't get past the weed and coral to reach water deeper than mid calf height. You need a motor bike to reach the areas where the closest decent restaurants are, which are for hire right outside the hotel.This place guarantees to disappoint.

Stayed here due to the great looking photos on their website and reviews by others. The photos of the Resort on their website make it look stunning, but it's not. The gardens were over grown and messy and the grass needed a mow. I did really like the size of our room and the view. Great size bathroom with a huge bath and private deck. Our bed was hard as a rock. The main reason I would not recommend this resort is due to their restaurant and their restaurant service. We were the only two in the restaurant around dinner time and the service was shocking, still waited 30 minutes for our food, and then had to send our steak back because it was very raw and was obviously from frozen ! Didn't get asked if we wanted drinks etc... The breakfast buffet was small and mostly pre packaged food. The kitchen couldn't keep up with refilling the trays of food, so people had to wait for more food to be cooked. The cocktail bar near the pool was slow service too. We were once again the only couple ordering cocktails but still took them 10mins to make two drinks. The beach is beautiful, so I'd recommend you walk down to the beach for better food and service from another restaurant, it's cheaper too!.

We wasn't aware of the issues with taxis in Koh Phanang. The hotel didn't contact me to let us know a shuttle service was available, only found out once we'd arrived. Booking a taxi with the hotel is a must!! Taxis outside the port are part of a scam all run by one company, massively overcharging people when they arrive. If you Google this there is plenty of information out there, but we weren't warned by the hotel

The hotel has a great beachfront location, a large pool, and a convenient restaurant. These were the main positives of our stay. On the downside, the staff were not very friendly and sometimes made us feel questioned rather than welcomed. The room locks felt insecure, and the cleaning was only average. Overall, a nice location and facilities, but there is room for improvement in service, security, and housekeeping.
