The staff were friendly and welcoming, which was a highlight of the stay. However, the property itself feels tired, with rooms in need of a refresh. I have fond memories of visiting Penny Royal as a child and used to love coming here, but unfortunately it doesn’t feel like much has been done over time to maintain or update the property. With some investment in refurbishment, it could better reflect the charm and nostalgia it’s known for.

Amazing place to stay! Close to everything including walking to the Cataract Gorge which is absolutely beautiful and full of wildlife!. Staff are really nice and the place is great! Highly recommend this place especially to families!

Helpful staff. Queen room was very basic, bed comfortable. The TV should be on an arm so you could actually watch it when in bed. Terrible shower, a triangle shape, if you move the shower head to the area with space to stand you drench the floor. I think it was overpriced for what it is.

The room and bed was really nice. Only criticism is the noise transfer from the above room into the lower room. We were in a bottom room and could hear the kids jumping around in the room above us. I’d recommend staying in an upper room which I’m sure would be lovely all round. Great location with Cataract Gorge walk within 5 minutes and city centre 10 minutes walk.
