It was then that a fishing village settled there and a few decades later, Le Barcarès had a major fishing port and even shipyards where the famous Catalan boat was built. In the 1960s, property developers took over the coast and made Barcarès a famous seaside resort with the symbol of Lydia, stranded on its beaches. This liner, now converted into a museum, nightclub and restaurant, is the fourth oldest liner in the world.
