Located in Lee Vining, this property sits directly on Mono Lake and offers some fantastic views. The room was clean, quaint, but has all you'd need to be comfortable and help explore the surrounding areas/Yosemite Park!
We stayed one night on Thursday and I think we were the only one there. So we had a very quiet and private time. A very charming, beautiful garden with a small creek running through. My dog loved running around. It is right across from Mono Lake. We got up early to watch the sunrise as the friendly staff strongly recommended it. Glad we did because it was breathtaking! They had a nice deck with benches built to sit and watch the sunrise. That was outstanding. They are currently building a stage to host concerts and events. That would be really charming. The 395 runs right in the front but no noise bothered us over night. In the morning time, you hear trucks go by seldomly. We are early risers and it didn't bother us at all. The room was huge with a king size bed, cozy living room, fully stocked kitchen and a Large Refrigerator. The white towels were clean and fluffy, I was impressed. I highly recommend it.
Booked as it was one of the closer options to Tioga/Yosemite east entry. Pricing is ok for the room. Lee Vining is the closest city 2mi. south from the lodge in case you are looking for dining options and gas.
Review of Mark Twain Room #1 specifically.
Pros:
* Larger unit
* Does have ceiling fan as well as AC window unit (unexpected as it wasn’t listed but a major plus when the sun is out)
* toiletries provided (also unlisted)
* comfortable bed
* shower/tub combo (pics show tub only)
* great view of lake especially at sunrise
Cons:
* bugs. Some can’t be helped like moths attracted to lights on porch that fly inside. Others included mosquitos/spiders. Maybe getting some type of bug repellent. We felt there has to be an opening to where the critters can get in.
* slight difference of what is listed on Expedia. Possible they’ve moved some things around to other units. Only a con if you were expecting a tub. Other differences were unexpected and considered pros
Overall, will stay again if in the area.
Great location.Could see the sunrise from our window.manager v.helpful with recommendations.
Wifi not working at all,and Aircondition was not v.effective.so had to open window ,traffic noise too much for sleep.
Somewhat expensive for a very basic room with limited amities. Right next to the highway so kind of hard to fall asleep with the semi trucks and traffic driving by. Nice view of Mono lake and outdoor seating area.
Room was nice and the theme was well put together. The room was clean and tidy. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Although, the WiFi didn’t work at all, we could only get a connection when stood outside the cabin but still no internet. The cabins would benefit hugely from WiFi repeaters as we were only the second cabin from the lobby building. The blinds were broken in the bedroom which meant waking up with the sun, they were the only bit that didn’t fit with the rooms theme also as office blinds. Would look amazing if both sets were swapped out for tartan style blackout curtains. Sprinklers came on in the evening luckily we saw them from the window as the spray hit the cabins front door and entrance path. Overall it was an okay to stay for one night and benefitted greatly from being next to Mono Lake with nice gardens. Would be spot on with WiFi and better window dressings.
The room was tiny. The bathroom was super small. The toilet was located so close to the wall that I had to sit sideways on it to use it. Tons of windows really let all of the insanely loud noise from the highway come in easily. I saw ear plugs on the counter and didn’t understand until it was time to try to sleep. Even with earplugs I didn’t sleep a wink. This place is PATHETIC!

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Rustic property overlooking the lake but a very busy road passes in front of you before the lake. Very expensive for the lack of facilities. Staff pleasant.
