The Wadsworth in National Historic District of Madison, Indiana.

The Wadsworth House was built in the mid-1800s. It is a fully renovated and modern Shotgun house in a quiet part of town on the east side, walkable to all events, to the river, and to shops/boutiques on Main St. Some folks living around have been living in the area all their lives. The Wadsworth House is situated on a charming tree-lined street with lots of character. Besides being a family name, it is also named The Wadsworth House in honor of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, whose poems I was forced to recite in the 5th grade! Hated it then, appreciate it now :)

One of the original owners, a carpenter, moved into the house in 1907 and added the side hall onto the east side of this shotgun house, giving it the privacy needed for the family. He had immigrated from Germany and took a job working at the button factory in town. Hardwood floors, a modernized full kitchen with granite countertops, and king-sized beds with full tiled bathrooms make this house a comforting getaway.

We enjoyed our stay at The Wadsworth. The house was clean and comfortable. It is located near the Ohio River walk and downtown Madison. Perfect for exploring on foot! We also hiked at Clifty Falls State Park which was less than 10 minutes.

We would give 10 stars if we could. The Wadsworth was the BEST rental we’ve ever had in Madison, and we’ve been visiting yearly for the last 30 years. The house was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated and thoughtfully furnished with very comfy beds, plush towels and even those little toiletries you might have forgotten to bring. The kitchen is very nicely equipped and the living room is perfect for a little evening TV. We especially loved the outside seating areas in the backyard and on the front porch. We spent some time in front just watching Madison go by. Thank you, Mona and Jeff, for sharing this lovely place with us.

Perfect Home for our stay!

We stayed 2 nights at the Wadsworth home. It was adorable on the outside & welcoming on the inside! The perfect size for 2 couples on a week-end getaway. The home was clean, King size beds were comfortable, a few snacks & coffee & creamer were provided! We had a a lot of fun searching for the tiny ducks hidden around the home! We were able to easily walk down to the riverfront or walk downtown to eat & shop.Clifty Falls is a must do for a hike to one of the many waterfalls! We also enjoyed the guided trolley tour around town.Thank you Mona, for the awesome communication & sharing your home in Madison!

The place was very clean and so nice inside. There were some snacks on the counter and shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion available for use. It is located not far from downtown so easy to walk if you are a walker. Also close to walk across the bridge or along the river. The owners texted after we left to thank us for our stay. Madison Weekend

The hosts thought of everything down to the smallest details (a snack basket on the counter) to make our stay perfect! Location was great, beautiful home, backyard and front porch seating, comfortable beds, fully stocked kitchen and the place was spotless. Perfect Madison VRBO!

Wonderful VRBO steps away from the Ohio River and historic Madison in a very quiet setting. The home is comfortable, clean and very well-equipped, and the seating at the rear of the house is a nice bonus! The owners are great people, and have anticipated every need for a short or long stay. Wonderful getaway

What a lovely home that we were able to enjoy some time away for our anniversary. Madison is such a charming community and this house adds to that charm. The location is a short walk to downtown, and during that walk you can see all the lovely homes in this neighborhood.The hosts provide such a welcoming home and a beautiful one at that. If we make another trip to Madison we will surely stay again at this house.

Perfect stay

The house was so clean, comfortable and welcoming that we knew within the first few minutes we would love our stay. The layout is nice in that the bedrooms are in the back of the house. The decor is beautiful, the beds and couch are extremely comfortable and there are some great little touches like coffee, water and snacks provided as well as extra blankets, hand lotion in the restrooms, some games and puzzles and brochures for local spots. It is close enough to walk to shops and restaurants yet on a quiet block. We would return to this property with no hesitation!
