Accommodation In Malang

Small by Indonesian standards and moving at a far more leisurely pace than the region's capital, Surabaya, Malang, is home to bougainvillea-lined boulevards and beautiful Dutch Colonial architecture. Rising 500 metres above sea level, it's a great place to relax and escape the sweltering heat of the surrounding lowlands. Fancy steeping yourself in some original coffee culture? Top Malang hotels are your gateway to this fascinating region (and all the caffeine you can handle).

Things to Do in Malang

As with many Indonesian cities, the hub of Malang is the alun-alun, the bustling central plaza that comes alive every night with vendors selling all manner of crafts and street food. After eating your body weight in nasi goreng, get lost in the colonial streets of the old town, where you'll find plenty of churches and temples. Have a day to spare? Malang is conveniently located between two mountains—the dizzyingly high Mount Semeru and the volcanic Mount Bromo—and is a perfect pit stop for each. En route, check out the ancient Candi Hindu temples, which are scattered around the countryside, and the long stretches of beach at Balekambang and Sempu Island.

Getting to & Around Malang

Flights to Malang land at Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport, about 13 km northeast of the city centre, where most of the hotels are situated. You may also fly into Surabaya Juanda Airport—hop on a train or hire a car from Wotif to make the 95 km trip to Malang via the Surabaya-Gempol highway. Malang itself is pretty walkable. You can reach most places on foot or take a public mikrolet (minivan) to the popular tourist sites.

Longing for a Malang holiday? Wotif's easy to use search and booking system can help you find cheap flights to Malang, or bundle your travel and Malang accommodation for even better value. Why not hire a 4WD with us and head down the Gunung Bromo crater?
