Convenient location to central Manchester attractions. Friendly, polite staff. Easy, swift booking process. However, pillow in room gave me pain in my neck and also my partner's neck. TV is also located not opposite the bed, making it difficult and inconvenient to watch. 3*/5

The hotel is horrible. The room had no windows and the walls were full of damp and mold. I stayed just one night, but id never stay again. The decor was incredibly poor and the staff were lacking in English. Everything, drinks etc had to be psid for by a credit card, and my partner doesnt have a card, so he couldnt pay for anything. Just a poor hotel.

We have just checked out of this hotel and I can say I will never ever return again. What an awful experience. I am currently 8 months pregnant so me and my partner booked this hotel for a nice relax before our child arrives and it has been anything but relaxing, we were put on the 5th floor and as soon as we entered the room we could hear upstairs very loudly but we didn’t mind as this was only 4pm however all throughout the night we have heard loud talking, heard them having sex and the floor boards, god it sounded like they were going to come through them!! And not to mention the window! When I booked the room I booked a no window for the simple fact we wanted to enjoy a peaceful night with no outside noise and bright light in the morning, we’ll all we have heard all night is a nightclub going on till the early hours, talking from the above guests and the curtains don’t even block the light out so we haven’t had hardly any sleep all night. The room is really dated, the pillows are like bricks and there is no phone in the room in order to ring reception to complain (this is the reason we didn’t speak with reception as we didn’t have a phone in the room and my phone had died with no charger). My partner couldn’t have a shower as there was only one towel and once he has realised he didn’t want to go down the hundreds of steps to ask for one (he doesn’t like lifts) so he has gone without a shower. Overall our experience at this hotel has been dreadful and we will not be return

Check in was slow and difficult as reception workers first language was not English. They were also intent on upselling to a suite to include breakfast

Does the job for a basic room with en suite. However the beds could be comfier, very noisy building (slamming doors routinely wake you up as no soft close fittings attached to doors). Basic amenities with shower given rate £120 per night you’d expect breakfast or a fridge with bottles water etc. Fantastic period building but needs investment to bring it up to its full potential! Keep an eye out for the weekly sale on the Britannia Website to maximise your value.

The building is truly stunning. The staircases, lighting and central foyer really wows, harking back to a time of decadence. The staff and security were really polite and friendly. I had a single room which was spacious, with a bath, TV, kettle and plenty of tea and coffee... Everything you'd expect. It was a little shabby, with the handles on the bath flattened, the plug chain broken, the sink shelf scratched and generally the main room felt a bit tired. My main criticism was the bed... The quilt was very small, the pillow (only one supplied) was very lumpy and uncomfortable. For the price, I can't really complain, but with a few tweaks, the hotel would be great.

Amazing entrance to the hotel reception and staircase ….. the rooms for a cheap overnight stay and reasonably good .. clean ,,, a little tired but the cleanliness was perfect. Can’t fault for the price.

I liked the style of the property, easy check in and a very nice breakfast the only thing I would mention is there seemed to have been a slight miscommunication between the front desk and breakfast area with my pre payment of the breakfast for 3 of us instead of just 1.

We stayed here for a gig (BFMV & Trivium) and I can’t say anything bad. Reading some of the other reviews did make me nervous about my stay but the room me and my fiancè had was clean, tidy and warm. We left our luggage in the room and locked the door behind us and everything was fine. The staff were lovely, when we came back in at 1am ish that night they were dealing with an unfortunate aggressive drunk guy at the doors and security handled him very very well without escalating the situation. Check in was smooth, check out was even smoother (you just plonk the keycard in the bin at the desk). Overall, I would be happy to stay here again.

Didnt like the fact that i couldn't get wifi reception on the top floor far sode rooms of the hotel. Needed to come out of my room to read my emails. Apart from that the staff were lovely. Do however suspect the cleaner took my universal plug and charger with cord from my room after i accidentally left it behind. I only had 1 small bag with me and after emptying it out could not find my plugs and cord. I went back to the hotel later and they were kind enough to check and show me the room after the report came back thet nothing was found in the room. Must admit that the staff who helped me were amazing but i am about 80 percent convinced that the cleaner most likely took my plugs and cord and didnt tell anyone aboit it. They were kinda unique given that the pligs in SA differ to the ones in the UK, thus my universal plug that goes for aboit 25 pounds being taken as well. However withoit proof its just my 80 percent surity that i have because i parked in the car park directly ipposite the hotel so the only place it would have been would be my small bag or the room where i last remember using it .
