The room was very small even for Europe. The climate control was turned off in October and it was quite warm so our room was stuffy and uncomfortable. We kept the window open for air and the street noise kept us from sleeping. The staff at the desk was friendly. We stayed 2 nights and there was no room service while we were there.

No Air Conditioning

At this time of the year, early October, they turn of the air conditioning in the hotel. They don't warn you of this when you book however. The rooms are small and very stuffy. It's also difficult to sleep with the window open because of the mid city noise. A most unpleasant experience overall performance in classic Marseille.

During check-in, I used the Apple Pay to settle the city tax and the charge of my pet at the counter. Then after ~45min, there was another small charge via the Apple Pay again without notifying me (like a fraud). I asked a female staff on the 2nd day (17 Sept, 21:30) and she said that this was a missing charge on the pet. It was ok for such missing but they cant settle the payment without my consent. She apologized quite rudely and said that I just repeated the situation. She said that it was common even in a supermarket to charge without the customer’s consent. I was quite shocked about this hotel which did something out of the standard practice (ie at least notifying or charge me the outstanding upon check out). Really a very low quality hotel. Better not to try this hotel.

I like the hotel itself, it's beautiful. The staff are friendly for the most part, but there are some downsides. The rooms are small but lovely...I expectee that, as I have been to Paris before. But I searched Expedia for a hotel with balconies and a gym, specifically, those were my main concerns. At check in, they told me that I shpuld have called that morning to request one, and there were no rooms available with a balcony. Secondly, the gym. The gym is a poorly lit, windowlesss closet-sized room with TWO sets of weights and a bike. I have video proof. The gym door, when closed, feels like a coffin. The manager argued with m we for not wanting to stay inside the coffin gym, and told me about other hotels that cost more, further insulting me. She offered a gym across the street for 35 euros a day. I booked that hitel because it claims to have a gym, which it does not. The breakfast is worth having. If a gym is important to you, don't go there. I would not recommend it. And the elevator holds 3 people maximum at a time.

The room was smaller than I thought but was clean and well kept. There was a bedroom, bath, and small but complete kitchen. Good location. 10 minute walk to the train station. 20 minutes to the old port. Breakfast was good with meats, cheeses, breads, yogurts, fruit, and soft boiled eggs.

Communication from the hotel was first class via email, but it was mostly in french. Area is not the best and noisy. Tourist sites are 10 minutes walk away but while we didn't feel threatened, we were wary. Our room had a kitchenette which was quirky. ishmatched glasses and crockery. Room was very tired and skirting boards were made from partical board so they had absorbed water and were disintegrating. Aircon a bit of a mystery - one temp only and shower leaked a lot. Staffvery helpful.

It is a 5 minute walk from the train station. Although it was an old hotel, it was clean. The room was big and the kitchen was well furbished. The breakfast was decent. The room had AC and a balcony. The bed was very clean and super comfortable. Most of all, the staff was very friendly and helpful.

A very hard bed, and scalding hot water in the bathroom did little to appease me. Breakfast was extremely limited, certainly not worth the 15 Euro charge.
