We enjoyed our stay with Matthew. He was very kind and generous in all communications. Being the first guests to use the property, I expect it to only improve over time.
We enjoyed the refrigerator, kitchen, and roomy bathroom. We also used the living room to relax and watch a movie. Be warned that the internet speed is terrible by today's standards (satellite) but it does mostly work. We were able to stream a movie with frequent interruptions. If you rely on internet for work, be warned that it got spotty at times.
The bedroom was large and fairly comfortable. Some additional furniture (a chair) in that room would be recommended.
I would recommend this property, but you need to have proper expectations.
First, this is a renovated farmhouse in rural Michigan. It's a cute property and plenty roomy, but the nature of it comes with some caveats that I think should be known and called out before renting.
1. The only bathroom is on the main floor. The only bedroom on that floor is a nice room with a single twin bed. All other beds, including the primary bedroom, are upstairs. This could prove to be a problem for couples with accessibility issues.
2. Being an old farmhouse, the stairs are very narrow and steep. We managed fine, but had to be cautious. Larger or older people with mobility issues would likely find it difficult.
3. The house is not as insulated and sealed as a modern property, so noise from the nearby highway and crossroad was louder than expected. We visited during nice weather, so I cannot comment on how it stands up to Michigan winters. However, the little heat we did use worked efficiently.
Second, this is rural Michigan. There is nothing, not even a grocery store, without a 10+ minute drive. We were there for a wedding, so this wasn't an issue for us. Matthew was very kind to offer free roam of the adjoining property with play lake. We were tempted to try the paddle boats, but we did not end up taking advantage of his offer. We did enjoy a walk around the lake one night.
Third, this property is on a recreational area that is meant to be open to the public for paid use. For the time of year we went, there was little activity, and the house is a distance away from the lake, but it is worth pointing out if you do not like the idea of having people around. They are also actively improving the related facilities, so there may be increased demand in the future. The workers that were around were very pleasant and not an intrusion.
