While the villa is based on the ground floor, a small elevated reading room creates a mezzanine effect above the spacious living areas (a gate will stop little ones advancing up the stairs). La Sassolina is furnished luxuriously with antique pieces and the bedrooms in particular have an opulent feel, including iron-framed beds and decorative wall flourishes. There may be some debate about who gets the dramatic four-poster but there is some consolation for those losing out, because several bedrooms offer views across the countryside.
