Adequate for our needs

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. First impressions on arrival were not great. The area around the hotel is very run down and access to the hotel was up a small flight of steps. The receptionist was not the most helpful and did just enough to check us in. However for the remainder of the stay the staff were more friendly and helpful. Once inside the hotel the rooms although small were clean and pleasantly decorated. Breakfast was good, with a variety of options including omelettes. Wooden cutlery and paper plates seem to be popular in many of the budget hotels including this one. Location wise it was good for restaurants and the metro.

Decent value and good location for visiting Montreal. Next to Berri-UQAM metro station and Gare d'autocars for easy transportation. The hotel is walking and biking distance to Le Plateau, Rue Saint-Denis, Quartier des Spectacles, and Old Montreal. The building is old and the rooms are not well soundproofed. The interior was a bit too dark for my preference. While the hotel has free breakfast which is edible, there are much tastier food options at the many cafes and restaurants nearby. The surrounding one block radius might seem a bit sketchy at night.

Staff were very kind and helpful after hearing our bad experience with another hotel, and they upgraded our room from a one bed to two after booking on short notice.
