Moscow Holidays

Around 10 400 000 people call this destination home.

If you're overwhelmed with everything that there is to see and do, why not make things easy and go straight to the best? Red Square and Moscow Kremlin are some famed attractions to start with.

If you're looking to spend some quality time with the kids around Moscow, you'll come upon a variety of options. Kva-Kva Aquapark, Waterpark Caribia and the Russian Fairy-tales Museum are all good spots that ought to be at the top of your list.

If you're after an excellent family-friendly attraction, stop at the Moscow Zoo, a popular destination boasting a wide range of beautiful and interesting animals.

The parks and gardens in and around Moscow can be a great place to take a break from tourist sites. A trip to the Moscow Botanical Gardens or the Central Botanical Garden are probably the best options to prioritise. When you are close to the Aptekarskiy Ogorod Botanical Garden, it might also be a practical spot to take a break in.

Feet getting a little sore after all that sightseeing? Take a break in some of this area's lovely green spaces. Make your way to Victory Park or the Alexander Gardens and take in the tranquil surrounds. On the other hand, Sokolniki Park and Hermitage Garden may be more practical depending on your location.

Don't hit the frog and toad without making a trip to at least one of the local environmental reserves and parks. Two main choices are Bitsa Park and Lossiny Ostrov National Park. Staying a few extra days? Then you'll want to consider Sparrow Hills and Troparevsky Forest Park as well.

This destination offers a great variety of great museums for curious folk to explore. We suggest the Kremlin Armoury Museum and the Metro Museum. If you have some more energy to burn, you could also have a look around at Diamond Fund and the Museum of Cosmonautics.

If you're inspired by accounts of daring sailors and ocean adventures, check out the Russian Submarine Museum to see this region's nautical history.

Stuck with a rainy day in Moscow? Now could be the ideal time to visit a few of the science attractions in the area. The Polytechnical Museum and the Experimentanium will both provide you with a fun and informative experience. A third recommended spot worth a squizzy is Moscow Planetarium.

With a bunch of fun educational attractions close by, there are enough things to see and do in Moscow to keep even the most voracious history nerds occupied. Spend an afternoon walking through the well-organised and ever-evolving collections at the Orlov Museum of Palaeontology and the State Darwin Museum. Afterwards, if you're keen for more, the Mytishchi Museum of Nature Protection and the Vernadsky State Geological Museum are also worth a squiz.

Is art one of those things that puts a smile on your dial? Moscow offers a collection of fantastic galleries and exhibition spaces that will be right up your alley. Make sure you check out the well-curated displays at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov Gallery. If you're hungry for more, then why not look through the New Tretyakov Gallery - Museum of Modern Art or the Andrei Rublev Museum of Early Russian Art?

If you're a history nerd, we recommend that you take a walk through one or two of the plentiful exhibition spaces about the place. Learn a bit more about the building blocks of the area at the State Historical Museum and the Domodedovo History and Art Museum. If that's not enough for you, stop by at the Ivanteyevka Museum of History and Local Lore and the Memorial Museum of German Anti Fascists.

Whether you are a lover of history or just a curious visitor, you'll find a range of sites to visit while in the area. Travel back in time to the Moscow State University and the Triumphal Arch. Then end your tour with a stop off at the Old English Court or Graveyard of Fallen Monuments.

Visitors with an interest in architecture or engineering will enjoy stopping off at Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge and Rostokinsky Aqueduct, two of the most interesting remnants of Moscow's good old days. From a variety of surrounding vantage points, you will be able to appreciate the design of each one while marvelling at the craftsmanship that has left them in such good nick.

Moscow has loads of interesting mansions and palaces that have put a roof over the heads of some of the area's significant leaders. Ostankino Palace or Palace of the Romanov Boyars are just two recommended buildings where you and your kids can enjoy some impressive architectural design. For those who aren't completely zonked from all that walking around, don't miss out on a visit to Petrovsky Palace or Catherine's Palace.

Put yourself in the shoes of long gone rulers as you explore Meyendorff Castle, a historic defence that deserves to be high up on the to-do list of any visiting history aficionados.

You don't need to be spiritual to take in the eclectic mix of divine sites scattered around this region. If you're keen to take a look at some, head on over to St. Basil's Cathedral and Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, then finish off the afternoon at Novodevichy Convent and Cemetery or Church of the Ascension.

You can find a variety of other less-visited spots around if you are keen to check out some more unassuming attractions. Travellers recommend Bukhta Radosti or Snej.Com All Weather Mountain Skiing Complex as handy locations to kill some time. Also think about visiting the Le Meridien Moscow Country Club and the Zuev Workers Club.
