We stayed for six days in this excellent apartment, situated as promised in the historical center of Naples, on the (European) second floor. It is clean, modern, well-kept and larger than appears in the accurate pictures; facing a side-street makes it quiet. A quirky, coin-op elevator requires 10 euro cents per ride, useful for luggage; otherwise take two flights of stone stairs. We were greeted by Mauro's father who gave us delicious rum babbas! The place is recently renovated with good appliances in a functional kitchen and a four-fixture bathroom (good rain and handheld shower with hot water). Usual mixed assortment of kitchenware, but surprisingly good (and sharp!) kitchen knives. The washing machine takes about three hours for a full cycle, but works well. There is a drying rack, iron, and board but we used a brand new laundromat two blocks away (Expresswash on Via Donnalbina -- open 7:30 - 22; wash 9 kg 4euros; 1 euro dry for 10 minutes); took our wet laundry there, and it was dry in 30 minutes. The kitchen could use a salad bowl and forks, mixing bowls, a larger cutting board, and more microwave dishes. There were lots of dishtowels and hot pads. We never used the oven. The bedroom has an adjoining huge, fully-fitted walk-in closet space. The terry-cloth robes were great! (BYO slippers and bar soap unless you like liquid soap.) Bath amenities included extra TP, shampoo, tissues, and facial cleanser. The Murphy bed in the dining area can sleep two if pulled down after moving the dining table, but we did not need it. Owner Mauro is responsive, attentive, and helpful. Wifi and lighting are very good. Other items included an umbrella, TV, dishwasher pellets, laundry soap, some coffees and teas, and shopping bags. An "instruction" book would be quite useful as we had to ask about garbage collection, which we never understood. The location is superb for anyone wanting to explore central Naples, allowing walking in any direction to important sites, bus stops, or the train to Herculaneum. There is a small but adequate supermarket a block away as well as innumerable smaller shops scattered in the area. A larger Conad market is on Via Roberto Brocco. We think this is a real gem (as close to a 5 as one can get), and would gladly stay here again. Other notes: we took the Alibus from the airport to the port and walked about 15 minutes to the apartment with our roller boards. We used the local bus to get to Capodimonte.
