The George is a pleasant, old fashioned hotel which, while lacking some of the facilities of such places as Holiday Inns or Travelodges, is comfortable and friendly and very popular with the locals. The staff are very helpful and co-operative.
It is ideally situated in the centre of Newent
We would certainly stay there again if in Newent.
The staff were lovely, showed us to our room. The room was stocked with mineral water and teas and coffees, biscuits. The pub downstairs had some good ales. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was quiet, perhaps as we were staying on a Wednesday night. Located in the centre of Newent close to cafes and other pubs plus a good chip shop.

A listed building, friendly staff, lots of original features
Nice friendly old inn in the middle of Newent. Opposite a good cafe and within walking distance to a number of pubs and bars. My dog was made really welcome and well looked after.
Stayed at the George Hotel for 1 night. Had a twin room which was on the first floor. Room was clean and tidy with an en suite bathroom.
Located in the market town of Newent within walking distance to pubs, restaurants and shops. Parking available to rear of hotel.
We had a lovely over night stay. The staff were amazing, polite, Considerate and helpful. Our room was lovely, clean and cosy. Thank you all at The George Hotel. We will be back again.
Step back in time in The George! A throwback to a bygone age, when people were shorter and bathrooms were carpeted. It's a lovely, quirky old building; as long as you embrace the dated decor and topsy-turvy layout you'll have a perfectly fine stay. The staff are friendly and welcoming, check-in was easy, and the room was warm and comfortable.
The car park is accessed from the front via a very narrow horse and carriage entrance. If your car is wide you will struggle to get through it. There is parking along the road overnight but between 08:30 and 4pm it states 1 hour max stay. During that time you can pay to park in Newent Lake carpark, a 5 minute walk away.
Keep your expectations in line with the price and you will have a jolly time!

The staff are amazing and can’t do enough for you. Very accommodating.
The staff at the hotel were fantastic and I found it an overall lovely experience. I was a tad concerned about the practicalities of not having an en suite, but the private bathroom was absolutely fine. I did find the bed wasn’t the comfiest, but for the price I was overall very pleased. One downside was how noise traveled - footsteps were felt from upstairs and rattled the door, making it hard to sleep (especially with a young family upstairs struggling to put their child to sleep - not blaming them at all, was just unfortunate given the way sound traveled. Would definitely stay again.
Friendly staff , not very clean , very loud music until 12:30 then lots of shouting and fighting when pub closed, unfortunately drug users in the pub and staff were aware
