The Space:
Nestled in the scenic Teign Valley between Dartmoor’s wild moorland and South Devon’s glittering coastline, Swifts Return is a stylish and serene retreat for two. This beautifully refurbished first-floor apartment is made for couples or solo travellers seeking quiet, comfort and nature on the doorstep, with the added luxuries of a private wood-fired hot tub, an indoor heated swimming pool, a wooden sauna and Starlink broadband.
Blending contemporary cottage charm with warm, homely touches, it’s the perfect base after a day exploring Dartmoor’s legendary tors or strolling the beaches of Torbay. Evenings are for the woodburner, stargazing from the hot tub or relaxing in the tranquil grounds.
Inside
Step through the stable door into a bright, inviting living space with a comfortable sofa, armchair, Smart TV and DVD player. In the cooler months, curl up beside the woodburner; your first basket of logs will be ready and waiting.
The fresh, modern kitchen-diner has everything you need for easy self-catering, including an oven, hob, microwave and fridge with ice compartment, plus a breakfast bar for a relaxed start to the day.
The elegant bedroom offers a sumptuous king-size bed, soft furnishings, plenty of natural light and a Smart TV for lazy mornings. The en-suite bathroom has a shower over the bath and WC.
Outside
Your private patio is ideal for a morning coffee, a barbecue or a traditional Devon cream tea. Beyond it, wander the shared lawns and woodland paths beside a gently babbling brook. The vaulted indoor pool and wooden sauna make a luxurious setting for a rejuvenating swim, or a quiet afternoon reading with the doors open to the fresh valley air.
For the ultimate treat, sink into your private wood-fired hot tub beneath clear, starlit skies.
Good to know
Hot tub: The hot tub is wood-fired and managed by guests during their stay, so our hosts are unable to operate it for you. Please allow time after arrival to fill it and light the stove to bring it up to temperature.
Shared facilities: The swimming pool and sauna are shared with one other apartment, so you may be sharing them if that apartment is occupied.
Pets: Pets are welcome for an additional charge.
Whether you’re dreaming of adventurous hikes, gentle nature walks, coastal day trips or a peaceful escape with your four-legged friend, Swifts Return promises a memorable stay immersed in nature, with all the modern comforts.
Guest Access:
Swifts Return is approached by a number of external steps, and so is sadly not mobility friendly.
The Neighborhood:
You can be as active or relaxed as you like at Swifts Return. If adventure is your priority, the rugged beauty of Dartmoor National Park and its miles of scenic walks lie to the west of the property. You can also cycle, pony trek and climb its famous granite tors. Less energetic but equally as beautiful is wandering the pretty local villages and towns – Chagford in particular is famous for its 'olde worlde' vibe and lovely shops and cafes.
You’re just a short distance from Stover Country Park, a 114 acre nature reserve where wildlife and nature abound. Follow the 90-metre aerial walkway and explore the Ted Hughes Poetry Trail, which features some of the late poet laureate’s best-loved nature poems, with illustrations by Raymond Briggs. Lose yourself among the ancient woodland, waterfalls and lakes of Canonteign Falls or try Kennick, Trenchford, and Tottiford reservoirs for easy and relaxing walking.
Stunning coastal views can be found on the English Riviera. For a relaxed sightseeing tour, take the Riviera Line, the coastal railway route running between Exeter and Paignton, which stops at many of the region’s most interesting and beautiful towns along the way, including Dawlish and Torquay. If you fancy a beach day, it’s a 40-minute drive to Torbay, where there are loads of hidden sandy coves and pretty harbour villages to explore. Twelve miles and 25 minutes' drive to the south is the pretty seaside town of Dawlish, famous for its sandy beachfront, colourful huts and black swans. The bright lights, eateries and entertainment of Exmouth or Exeter can all be reached within 40 minutes.
If you’re a foodie, there’s lots of options, from super-posh Gidleigh Park near Chagford and the high-end Manor Inn at Lower Ashton to the Teign House Inn up the valley near Christow. Other authentic Dartmoor boozers to try are the Bridford Inn at Bridford for a real country atmosphere and good food, the Artichoke at Christow for traditional pub grub and the Cridford Inn at Trusham, one of the oldest pubs in Devon.
