Great views, great value!!
The people at the pension were very kind. Great location and views. Simple, but clean and the Wifi worked well. There was a nice breakfast each morning from the patio with a lovely view of the bay. It is just 2 "blocks" up the hill from the main road where you can walk to the few sites, restaurants/roulottes, and stores in the town. The very farthest side of the bay is about 20 mins walking. Make sure you ask about excursions ahead of time as they leave early, otherwise you would need a car to see anything on the island. They can arrange a paid transport to the airport for you which is an hour away on the other, uninhabited, side of the island (the drive alone might be worth the trip to Nuku Hiva, it is gorgeous). I would stay here again, great value!!

The staff at this Pension make the stay very enjoyable. the rooms are basic but have all the amenities you need for your stay in the Marquesas Islands. The location is perfect, within walking distance to the center of town, yet up a small hill so it's quiet. The view is spectacular. The host Jean Claude wonderful.

Terrible stay
My experience: 1) I arrive from 5 hours fly and went to the pension for two nights. When I arrive they said me that is already booked. They gave me money (less than one night that I pay 2 months ago) and send me to another pension. They make me lost one day with this trouble. 2) The second day, they let me in TATA MAVE MAI to pass my night there. The night was ok but I dont like that one guy of the staff that was totaly drunk and make me feel unfortable. But the problem were in the morning that I had to go to airport and they said me that I have to paid the transfer when they never said me nothing about that.. so I said: ok goodby, and found another taxi. 3) The people are always with bad face, they dont care the client and were not profesional. Horrible atencion. The owner talk with me by phone totally unpolite with revenge words, they are evils persons. 4) Breakfast its not enought. A bit of fruit and bread.

The guesthouse is located just above the small pier where the artisan center and the tourist info are. We would recommend booking your activities either with the help of Regina and Jean-Claude the owners or through the tourist info. The room was spacious and clean, as was the bathroom. The porch had two lounge chairs overlooking the bay which was very nice. The room isn't fancy, it is simple and nice. The breakfasts are very nice - with lots of fresh fruit and a different selection of pastries each morning and wonderful lemonade. We loved the hospitality and how much they care about their guests. Your safety and happiness are very important to them - they are great hosts!

Stay 4 days 3 night . Really simple motel but in good location and good view . Really good helpful host . The hot water is sufficient , water pressure is good . Room and hotel is clean . Simple breakfast .

Wonderful hosts in Nuku Hiva
Nuku Hiva is a remote island in the pacific and is a truly wonderful place to explore. The island features some fantastic ancient houses, temples, and statues that are quite accessible by rental car or via a daytrip. There's also good hiking and fishing though the heat stopped us from walking very much. The pension, Mave Mai, is right in the center of the village and it's a short walk to three small restaurants nearby, which was more than sufficient choice for our 5-day stay. The breakfast at the pension was great and features local fruits, bread, coffee, and always something else that is freshly made. When we stayed all other guests were French though the owner speaks more than enough English to get by. As we stayed for the new year, and all restaurants closed, the pension threw a fantastic feast of local cuisine for us. Fortunately we arranged for the pension to pick us up as we did not see any taxis outside of the airport. It's a 90 minute drive to the pension but unlike most taxi rides, this feels more like a tour of the island than anything else.
