Holiday getaway

What was supposed to be a lovely thanksgiving with the family turned into a not so nice trip. We checked in after the realty company had closed for the holiday, which normally isn’t a big deal, but was this time. We found stained mattresses and pillows, the bunkbed was not safe to use the top bunk. It wasn’t attached properly to the bottom bunk. That was the least of our worries. That evening we found several dead and LIVE roaches. We have rented many beach houses in the south and have never seen “water bugs” is what they called them when indeed they were roaches. I called the company and left a voicemail immediately and sent a message through Vrbo as well. We were stuck until Friday morning when they opened back up. Needless to say, we checked out early, went straight to the realty office with photos and physical evidence. They said they would get someone out to spray and hopefully clean properly as well. I did get all my money back except the vrbo “cleaning “ fee. Pictures can be deceiving so be mindful when looking for a rental!

items needing addressing.....

Master bedroom and bath walls are rotten, with a feebled attempt to hide with new paint, mold and mildew evident. Most of the cookware is unusable, teflon streaks torn off all the frying pans, had to buy a new one to cook. Rat infestation off the rear deck, not mice! Evident there's no pest elimination program. Washer/dryer located downstairs, having to go up/down steps to do laundry, outdated furniture, carpet, counter tops, aka1970's. all in all overpriced for the condition. Won't be staying there again. notated anwhere in the listing. ONE small TV, riduculous for a 4 bedroom house serving families.

Loving Oak Island

Other the weathering a tropical storm we loved the island. The rental company kept us updated on the process of what needed to be done for the storm. The check in process was great and our rental was ready early. We loved all the restaurants and the shops we went to while we were there

Fine for a week at the beach...

House is directly on the beach - easy to locate. House is not in as good a shape as the photos would lead you to believe. As many houses at the beach - they take a beating from the folks who stay there and the weather. Felt the cleaning crew did a rush job - Otherwise - good water pressure in the shower, beds were reasonably comfortable, beach was not crowded.
