Welcome to the Turtle Shell, OKI’s finest, offering one of the largest private pools on the island (40X16)! Enjoy beautiful expansive ocean views, direct beach access, as well as the Ocean Crest Pier and Island Way Restaurant just steps away across the street. This property provides ample on-site parking so no need to pay extra to go to the beach. As many of our reviews attest, this location simply is the best!

Please enjoy the private pool which includes a generous tanning ledge, also great for young kids to splash around on, a massive deep end with bench seating to enjoy cocktails while lounging in the pool and lots of space for lap swimming as well. Please inquire about the heating and cooling function for an additional fee.

The Turtle Shell offers outdoor space running the gamut from shaded decks to under-house picnic areas to sunshine by the pool with ample lounge seating for all. The covered front porch is a favorite spot to enjoy coffee in the morning and happy hours in the afternoon while watching the waves crash with beautiful unobstructed views of the ocean and pier. The covered area under the house is the perfect place to have a shrimp boil on the two picnic tables or stay covered while cooking on the gas grill. The covered back porch overlooks the pool and offers respite from the sun and wind. There are many places to congregate and play games or watch beautiful sunsets.

This beautiful vacation rental boasts an open floor plan featuring an updated kitchen with ocean views and space for all the chefs in the family including stainless steel appliances and quartz counter tops next to an oversized dining table with ample bench seating to accommodate family. The kitchen and dining areas open into the large living room which includes abundant seating and a large screen TV with smart features and a DVD library all with the same stunning ocean views. The high-speed internet allows streaming on all devices including HD Roku TVs in each room. The pocket doors on one side of the house are perfect for separate families or young children to provide a quiet space on one side of the house or while you wash a load of clothes.

The bedroom layout is ideal with two bedrooms separated by one bathroom on each side of the house. The two front bedrooms (king and queen) have amazing ocean views. All bedrooms have abundant light, clothing storage, ceiling fans, as well as blinds and curtains for those that enjoy dark sleeping quarters.

Off-season nightly rentals available with a two-night minimum.

Guests should note that an additional pool heating or cooling fee is required for each day a guest requests these services. Guest must request the pool heating and pay the fee by calling the OIA office during normal business hours at least 24 hours prior to arrival. Pool heating is only available when temperatures are 55 degrees Fahrenheit and warmer.

Check in was easy. Pretty seamless process. The home was extremely stuffy when we got there. We had to open all the windows and turn on all the fans due to the smell in the home. Found hair in the drawers and dust in many places. We went during the off season so I can understand it being stuffy but it didn’t seem that the home was recently cleaned. Overall the stay was ok. Appliances worked, water pressure was good. Distance to the beach was very close and made it nice to come back and forth for anything we needed. One of the beds was very squeaky. To the point where it was squeaking every time you’d slightly move. The most disappointing part was the pool. We purposely rented this location for the pool which we paid ahead of time to heat. When we arrived the pool was extremely dirty, all filters were plugged up with debris and it wasn’t heated. When we inquired about it we were told the pool was heated and cleaned the day before we arrived but it didn’t appear to be the case. The pool never ended up being heated due to the weather (they said they will not heat at 55degrees or below and 2 of the 3 days we paid for the temp was over 60). Which was very disappointing for my two little girls that had their hearts set on swimming. So if you’re planning your stay for the pool, I wouldn’t pick this location. And if you like any sort of privacy, this also isn’t the place as there were cameras all over.

Fantastic location just across the street from beach access and a pier. + a pool!

The property was very clean and comfortable. The new pool was very clean and a great space for the kids. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils - don't forget your spices, butter, etc as these type items won't be waiting on you. Some beach accessories were available for use - umbrella, cooler on wheels and some chairs. Coffee filters supplied for coffee maker - unit also has a Keurig. Gas Grill was ready for use. It's such an easy location to enjoy the beach - access is across the street and Ocean Crest Pier just a very short walk (pier bar serves food).

Awesome place

We highly recommend this property, it was clean and had everything you need. The location was perfect, we had beach access and the ocean crest Pier. Minutes away from grocery store and shopping! If you want to go and relax, it is perfect for that also. We will return!

Fantastic location

We stayed in The Turtle Shell for 1week visiting from the UK what a hidden Gem. It’s situated opposite the pier and The Island Way Restaurant which was fantastic. The rental was great super clean, great location, nice beachy touches 4 double bedrooms 2 bathrooms large kitchen living room area with balcony facing the ocean which was perfect for sundowners. Couple of things there wasn’t any decent beach chairs to take down to the beach the only ones that were there were old and rusty so either bring your own or pick some up on route. Also there was no Beach towels. We couldn’t get the WIFi to work and after chasing the rental company twice they supplied it. This should be supplied in the rental file. It’s also advertised to sleep 12 people whilst there was only 4 of us there is no way this rental is big enough for 12 people. Overall great place, we would def. Visit again

Perfect Family Vacation in a Perfect Spot!

This was our first trip to Oak Island and we couldn't be happier about our stay at The Turtle Shell. Right across the street from the beach access and no steps! Pier was right across the street, too! The kitchen was well-stocked. Probably the cleanest place we have ever rented! Some board games and puzzles, not many though. All the TV's worked perfectly. We really appreciated the detailed instructions sent by email and in the house about house operations, check-in, check-out, etc. Also surprised by the few beach equipment items left for us to use! I honestly can't think of anything negative to say!

Amazing house and even better location.

This house is everything you need and then some for the perfect beach trip. Plenty of room to spread out. Great outdoor space with two porches and even more space under the house to grill and hangout in rocking chairs. Amazing beach view from the front porch. Literally steps to the beach.
