Omarama is practically right in the middle of the Southern Lakes District, within easy reach of six of its beautiful lakes: Lake Benmore, Lake Ohau, Lake Pukaki, Lake Tekapo, Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka. Avid fishermen will love the salmon, brown trout and rainbow trout in the lakes, as well as the Omarama Stream and Ahuriri River. You may even spot some penguins in the area if you're lucky. If you're not into fishing, you can always try gliding, biking, horse riding or hiking. One of the best places to go hiking is the Ahuriri Conservation Park, which is 49,000 hectares of bliss for nature lovers.
The highlight of any holiday to Omarama is, arguably, an hour or two spent in a hot tub. Here, you can relax in your own private outdoor hot tub, set on the edge of a lake with mountains as the backdrop – could there be a better way to unwind? Another great place to kick back and relax is at the Ladybird Hill Vineyard Restaurant. This vineyard has the highest production rate in all of New Zealand. It's also picturesque with its duck ponds and picnic tables at the top of the hill.Getting there
