Welcome to your UP adventure headquarters: *Floodwood River Oar’asis*! Our tranquil little artfully curated getaway is the perfect home base for anyone visiting the UP! Our vibes are a blend of outdoorsy inspired northwoods nostalgia balanced with some comforts you’d find at home (picture cozy linens, comfy beds, a rainfall style shower head, the crackle of a campfire under the stars, and a warm cup of coffee/tea). Hosting is so much more to us than just renting out our cabin. We strive to help create a memorable experience for our guests! A bit about our location: perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, we are situated along the banks of the Floodwood River, and we are a few miles from the public beach for Lake Superior access. During peak snow season, bring your sleds and ride (safely) along the shoulder of the highway to the trailhead (3mi)! If conditions are just right, you may even fall asleep to the sound of the waves of the big lake, or stay up late and catch a glimpse of the breathtaking dance of the northern lights! The cabin sits on serene 32 acres of private wooded property so you are welcome to explore, snowshoe (provided for guests in winter) and relax to your hearts content. We are located just a few miles from town, where you’ll find a selection of shops, groceries, gas as well as options for dining out (we reccommend The Squeeze!). We are also approx 20 miles away from Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park including Lake of the Clouds, all levels of hiking trails, waterfalls, beaches, cc and downhill skiing and more! There are plenty of nearby snowmobile, atv and hiking trails/UP adventure hotspots (Bond Falls, Agate Falls, etc. or take the ferry to Isle Royale) within an hour or so radius of the cabin; the possibilities are endless no matter what season you visit! Interior cabin amenities include: the main floor is wheelchair accessible, has a covered porch with spacious entryway, full bath with tile shower, petite yet well equipped kitchen and wet bar as well as a dining and living area. There are two queen beds, one on the main floor and one up in the loft, sleeping a total of 4 people. Upstairs, opposite the sleeping area, you’ll find a desk for creatives and a cozy reading nook. We have internet service for you to work remotely, but also encourage you to disconnect and take time to enjoy a hobby of yours or explore the outdoors! Speaking of outdoor space: Please be respectful our occasional animal visitors, including deer, hummingbirds, river beavers, and more! We have a firepit with chairs as well as a trail down to the river. There is a very large and level gravel area with plenty of room for parking and unloading trailers for those of you who are visiting us to snowmobile or ATV/side by side on the local trails! The cabin is perfect and in a great location to explore. The hosts have included lots of little extras to ensure you have everything you need. Thankfully we didn't forget anything, but if we had I'm sure it was there. The cinnamon strudel banana bread was delicious!

What a wonderful cabin, with an exceptional attention to details for a relaxing getaway. The location was perfect for hiking, rock hunting and site seeing! The hosts were very accommodating and check-in was a breeze! Would definitely consider another stay at this location!

Our hosts Heidi and Gary were great during our stay. Heidi made us a Dutch oven cake with homemade whipped cream upon our arrival and it was delicious. They had all the items that people might need like soap, shaving cream, shampoo etc.. nice touches. Coffee , tea, cocoa mix, items for cappuccinos. It’s a cozy cabin that feels like a home. Heidi has set up hummingbird feeders in front of the porch and it’s fun to sit on the porch and watch the hummingbirds zoom around. There’s usually 6 or so flying in and out. The cabin is also in a good location. It’s a short distance from Ontonagan and about 15 minutes or so away from Porcupine Mountains. It was our 2nd visit to this cabin. We had a blast and plan on returning again! Thank you Heidi and Gary

We enjoyed our stay at the Oar-asis! The location was ideal for us, with doing activities in the Porkies and in Ontonagon, and we were surprised by how many amenities were available! The hosts thought of everything that is needed for a great stay, plus the complimentary coffee, breads and cookies were delicious! One of the better VRBOs we stayed at with a very nicely stocked kitchen, charcoal for the grill, etc. The hummingbirds at the feeder were a delight to watch, and we even saw a deer wander along the yard perimeter to enjoy the apple trees one of the evenings!

Overjoyed in Ontonagon!

So very impressed with this charming cottage! Absolutely amazing stay with so much to offer near the shores of Lake Superior. Heidi is a one of a kind hostess with all her creativity and close attention to detail everything you need is available within her immaculate haven! My wife and I were greeted with Blueberry Crepes in the fridge which made the for quite a delicious treat for our first morning before exploring the Upper Keweenaw Peninsula!The beautiful flowerbeds, humming birds, and porch to relax on were simply amazing!Just can't wait to return and spend an entire week next time we visit! Thank you Heidi and Gary!

We loved this cabin stay! The location was right across the street from Lake Superior with easy access to the many pull ins to get to the lake. It was a short and beautiful drive to the Porcupine National Forest, which we visited 3 times during our stay. The cabin was immaculate, with lots of thoughtful things inside that made us feel very welcome. The whole place is really charming, we felt very comfortable. My son really liked the upstairs bedroom. We enjoyed sitting outside watching the humming birds and saw lots of deer and colorful birds. Heidi is a very kind host, she baked us some wonderful bread! She went above and beyond to make our stay fabulous. We enjoyed this trip so much, people in Ontonagon are very nice. We took a road trip to Bayfield and took a ferry to the Apostle islands. We also drove to copper harbor on another day. We were so impressed with the pristine beaches and lake areas that we saw everywhere. I can highly recommend Heidi’s cabin, it makes a great base camp. We just can’t wait to come back!

Amazing Michigan Vacation

We thought the property was beautiful. We did not realize it was by the highway a tad noisy. Enjoyed the deer crossing on the property and a short drive to beautiful Lake Superior. Heidi left a special surprise to enjoy and grateful for her communication with us.

Our Spring Break trip was great. Heidi was great at communicating, had Swedish crepes in the fridge when we arrived and alerted us of a good night to see the Northern Lights. We hiked the Porkies on three of our days and did road trips to Houghton and Calumet the other two days.

Cute cabin get away

Very cute & well appointed cabin. Close to many activities and services, but far enough out for some serious quiet. Heidi was extremely prompt with communication and even provided welcome treats for our arrival. Meticulously clean throughout with well stocked kitchen and bath. Excellent facilities for a couple or two (or family) to spend time away together. Snowmobile trail access is just a short ride down the roadside. Will certainly be staying here again should we find ourselves vacationing in the area.

This place was exactly what we needed for our snowmobile trip. Place has everything you need. Communication was excellent right from the start. You have to appreciate all the little details that the owners put into the property to make you feel at home and relaxed. We will definitely be booking with them again for a weekend on the harleys! BEST VRBO stay ever!!!

Heidi went above and beyond to make out stay feel warm and inviting. She even made us a little treat. The cabin was absolutely perfect for our family of 3. She has literally thought of everything you could possibly need! We were not far from the snowmobile trail, from the front doordoor.

Very Clean and Plenty of Amenities

Very nice cottage with everything you need for a pleasant stay. The decor makes you feel like you are out in the middle of the country. Must post a disclaimer for snowmobilers: The nearest trail is 3.5 miles away. Only way to get there is by ditch riding (which is legal). However, being unfamiliar with the area, having to cross multiple driveways and a couple bridges, we did not want to chance it with rental sleds. Plus, our rental place was only 10 miles away. Would not stop us from staying there again, just wanted to advise for those wondering in the future.

The host Heidi was wonderful. She went above and beyond to get things back on track.

There was a few hiccups with missing information from the Vrbo company. But after contacting Heidi (Host), she sincerely apologized and very quickly got things back on track. The place was as pictures showed. Very warm and inviting. We were graciously greeted with delicious muffins and sweets. We very much enjoyed our stay, but unfortunately, due to unpredictable weather/storm coming in we had to leave a day early. We definitely will be back again. Next time perhaps when it is warmer and we can totally check all out more. We did go to Agate Beach and did some rock hounding, along with stopping at a quaint restaurant and rock shop. The young man we talk to was very interesting and we learned a lot from him. We definitely look forward to our next return. Thank you Heidi for all your kindness. ❤️ See you again soon! Dorene
