Our stay at Puna Retreat was amazing! The property was beautiful and the house was very clean. The host is super friendly and was helpful with recommendations on where to eat and what to do. I would definitely recommend this place if you are staying on the Hilo side.
Wonderful stay! Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Accommodations were very clean and comfortable. Property is beautiful, steam vent walk was really cool!!
Great place. Loved the cold plunge and hot tubs. My teens even enjoyed the trundle bed! Tiny home living but cozy and had everything my family of 4 needed.

The location and people are wonderful
The only place I will stay when visiting the island going forward
This place is such a beautiful oasis. So quiet and peaceful. The grounds are beautiful to walk around (bee hives, flowers, mini garden, some animals) and there is a gorgeous view of the water. It's easy to get to town and Jacklynn is a wonderful host. We also had amazing massages with a wonderful therapist named Christine at the massage shala. Highly recommend!
We loved staying here! The cottage, property, and surrounding area were all so great. We stayed 4 nights, but didn’t run out of things to do. Thank you!
What a wonderful retreat! We loved everthing about this visit. Property was clean, host was delightful and the rainforest ambiance can't be beat. Cute hot tubs and dipping tanks in the rainforest lent itself to unique experiences for us. Would recommend!
Absolute perfection! Not a speck of dust, not a linen out of place. Property was sheer perfection and the host…. MAGIC!!!!! Thank you! We will be back!
Though this property intentionally lacked amenities that large, resort like properties provide, it hit the mark in what was promised: a quiet, intimate experience that is close to nature and the nighttime sky! Though secluded, the location is close enough to Pahoa to make dining and a trip to the store to resupply convenient. The grounds are beautifully manicured and at night the stars are vivid and accompanied by a chorus of Coqui frogs! The onsite hot tubs were clean and provided a welcome respite from the bit of rain we had. The "pool" is not to be missed...not traditional but unique in a beautiful/good way.The site is served by satellite internet service which was quite reliable though subject to some disruption depending on the weather and level of useage by other guests. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.
From the very beginning, the host, Jacklynn, was communicating thoroughly and promptly with me. She assured me that it would be easy to find, easy to enter, with little confusion or hassle. I was concerned about Wi-Fi and Internet access and she assured me that both were robust and stable. Everything Jacklynn told me was true and accurate.
The Puna rain forest retreat has five cottages located at the end of a lovely gravel road off of a well marked and easy to navigate secondary road.
We stayed in the rainbow cottage. The rainbow cottage is the center cottage which is flanked on both sides by the two other cottages. Perhaps the second thing that struck us, aside from the easy access and accurate directions, was the stunning view of the horizon.
Our rainbow cottage was literally painted with rainbow colors on the outside and soft subtle hues on the inside. We could actually lay in bed and see the ocean from the bed. There was a deck outside of our bedroom and we often spent the early part of the morning sipping coffee and sitting outside on the deck.
The cottage was more than roomy for the two of us and roomy enough for more. The grounds of the retreat were also very special.
The grounds of the retreat were also very special. Aside from being visually stunning there were several easy hiking trails.
The overall vibes at the Puna rain forest retreat kind of felt like a spiritual massage! It was all just so relaxing and so pretty. Thank you Jacklynn.
