Amazing Hotel

Thank you for a wonderful 2 day stay at The Mercure Hotel in Paignton, Devon. My husband and i stayed in a Classic Double room with a lovely big shower, they also provided towels, hair shampoo, shower gel all organic and great quality along with the hand soap. Our bed was amazing very comfortable, also great blackout curtains too. The windows don’t open in the room but the good news is you have great air con and heating at your fingertips. The Tv was 52” and fabulous with free view channels too. Hotel has 2 lifts and a fabulous outdoor balcony area. What i loved was in the evening while having a drink outside the waiter approached us (and every other table) to hand out lovely warm fleeces to wrap around you if feeling a bit chilly as our hotel wasn’t far across from the beach. I thought this was so lovely of them to do this. We did book for dinner on our first night (booking is advised), not a very extensive menu to choose from but quality was good, a little pricey on some dishes and noticed the same menu the next night. Plenty of places to eat near by but if you didn’t want to go out the hotel then you have options. Breakfast in the morning was nice you had your continental first, then your hot buffet stuff, sausages, bacon scrambled eggs ect… but a word of warning as we didn’t find this out until I’d plated up the hot food but if you wanted your eggs a different way like poached, fried ect you need to order them separately at the bar first. Staff all fabulous. Thanks again

The building and facilities of the hotel it self was lovely, however the staff were not very helpful, did not seem like they cared about customer satisfaction. When we arrived we were very pleased with the hotel, we asked several questions to staff who didn’t seem to care. One night we wanted to eat in the hotel of which there were three other tables, after being signposted to the restaurant staff I said excuse me to the waiter who at first ignored me once saying excuse me again he told me they were fully booked! When they only had 3 tables eating, he did not carry on the conversation or apologise or even offer other suggestions. When speaking to reception staff about changes we would make to the hotel to make it abit better for customer we felt they didn’t care. Rooms were not cleaned till after 5pm everyday of which we were getting ready to go out so we had to go 3 days without having the room cleaned. This hotel could be a good facility and has a lot of potential however staff have let them down and we will not be staying again

Fab spot

The location of the hotel is great, we were visiting family in Torbay which is less than a ten minute drive from here. There are plenty of bars cafes and shops a short walk along from the hotel. if you dont want to pay for the hotel parking there is a public car park at the top of beach road that is a little cheaper. The hotel is well decorated and the reception and public areas were nice and clean during our stay. Our room was spacious and clean, it had tea and coffee as well as a mini fridge. The bed was comfortable, as were the two chairs in the room. Staff were attentive, polite and helpful. We'll certainly use this hotel again on our next visit to Torquay.

Very nice hotel and frontage. All staff friendly and helpful. Good quality cooked breakfast. Privilege room worth the extra for the views. Large comfy bed and a/c worked well with easy instructions. Definitely stay again.

Wouldn’t recommend

Wouldn’t be staying here again. Room was ok, comfy bed and decent air con. Other than that not great. Cost a fortune to park on premise, £15 per day and can’t guarantee a space as barely any spaces compared to the number of rooms in the hotel. You’re then told to use the Ibis next door which is same situation, then an overflow card park which has same number of spaces, again not gauranteed. They deliberately don’t tell you there is a long stay car park out the back called Victoria road long stay which is much more affordable, £30 for a 4 day permit, half the price of packing at the hotel. Then there’s the breakfast, £18.95 per person per day for a basic buffet which we rightly didn’t do, go elsewhere, there is a great cafe called Franx not far from the hotel. No fresh bottles of water each day, only on arrival, when I went to ask for me staff seemed perplexed we’d drank the water already and wouldn’t/couldn’t sell me more, was offered tap water. Again failed to tell us there was a shop round the corner open until late. During our stay our body wash ran out, ordered more, never done, had to ask housekeeping a second time and rather than take the empty bottle away just gave us a new one. Shower itself is ok but has very poor draining and kept overflowing and spilling over towards the toilet.

Arriving at the property check in was slow. Our room had been upgraded to sea view but once we got to the room there was no hot water in the shower. They moved us to the room we originally booked which they’d said had quickly been cleaned to move us. It smelt like dog, had dog hair on the bed and hair in the drain of the shower. We were then told someone else was going into our upgraded room and we couldn’t move back even though there was still no hot water. After a long 4 hour drive and spending the afternoon at the beach our evening was wasted waiting for a response from staff and moving rooms. I even asked to speak with the manager but no response to that. The actual hotel itself was lovely but it’s not acceptable to have a room with no hot water or expect guests to sleep in a bed that’s had a dog on it. Wouldn’t waste my money going back there!

Long wait to check in and cannot believe they did not have two people working on reception. This happened more than once. There were not enough people working at the bar so again a long time elapsed before getting our drinks. The receptionist forgot to tell me that after I'd paid for 5 days parking that I had to enter my registration mark on their terminal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't receive a parking ticket! Room was large but the wardrobe was unbelievably small and the door closer prevented the wardrobe door opening fully. Bathroom large and great for handicapped persons just a shame that the shower curtains weren't longer to prevent water splashing around the rest of the room. The cleaner for our apartment was exceptional and all the staff were polite but there were just not enough of them!

Great view in front rooms and very modern and clean although grout needs cleaning in the shower as stained jn places.Not quiet enough as soundproofing within the hotel is poor as airborne and impact noises heard/felt from other rooms mostly from loud heavy closing doors and vibrations through the bedisde wall. Big gap under my door on one end where light is coming through.
