About this property

Duncklee Room 202, Hyland Hotel

This newly renovated and locally owned property was the first hotel/BnB ever built in Palmer Alaska. It opened for business in 1936 with single rooms renting for $3 a day. We have maintained the historic colonial feel of the building while incorporating modern amenities to ensure our guests a comfortable and safe stay. The Hyland Hotel was officially listed on the federal National Register of Historic Places on June 21, 1991. We look forward to sharing a piece of Palmer's history with you!

Edward and Eliza Jane “Jenny” Duncklee were early homesteaders in the Matanuska Valley, with Edward securing a 319-acre homestead in 1916 and later selling it to the government for the 1935 Matanuska Colony Project. Jenny, originally from England, was active in community organizations and played a vital role in the region’s early social life. Their contributions helped shape the foundation of Palmer, Alaska, as an agricultural and homesteading community.
